I haev just loaded a copy of Cubase SX onto my PC and am now getting the Error message

Generic host process for WIn32 Services.

The detials state that the is problem with files

svchost.exe.mdmp and
appcompat.txt

I can not find the second file when i do a search but find three copies of the first file in various locations.

I am running win XP. Any help would be appreciated.

svchost.exe = a virus I think unless this is in task manager that you're seeing it. Search the forum for that name. Did the system reboot after install? That would be an almost sure sign that a virus had installed.

No you just have a lot of evil crap running in that image. :P

He's talking about svchost.exe.mdmp. Notice the extension.

Unless that's a product of a crash and memory dump, I don't know what else it could be.

Thanks for your response balamm.

yes the system did haev to reboot after the new software (crack) was installed but that is the way the install for Cubase SX works. I did download the sw via Kaza and i do not have any anti virus software running.

I am now getting the error message everytime i switch the machine on.

I asume that i should download and run some antivirus software before doing anything else.

Lesson learned I hope. Never run any file sharing program without AV running.
Hiding a trojan or virus in an archive is extremely easy and those that will know there are some who won't catch it. From there, it's just a matter of time before it spreads to a system worth raping.
Don't assist the process.

Go here and run this on-demand virus scanner of Nod32. (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=80480)

Nod32 I think is the best, It scanned my whole computer in 5 min, and the other ones take like 14 min.

Thanks for your replies everyone.

balam, yes i was an idiot to run a p2p download without any AV software.

I ran some AV progs last night and discovered 41 files with virii. All been cleaned or deleted now. Thanks for you help.

I am now running Panda AV. I also ran Trend micro House call which discovered some viri that PAnda did not.
