View Full Version : Polls - Let Members Create Them

I am tired of seeing Sr. mMembers begging to start Polls, members or at least Sr. Members should be able to do so. Let say a certain post count and you can start Polls. Of course if someone abuses the privlage outside of the Lounge in regular areas he would be warned to keep up the content and then have his Poll privlages put on moderation.

Of Course I suggest to decide if this is a good idea we should...

TAKE A POLL.
(I'de start one but I can't)
:P :P

I think if the Polls do open to everyone. It may start out with dum poll, and overuse. The thing is it will get old quick. So i agree with REALITY.

Nah...

We should have Polls so we can help entertain and educate each other and nOObs, also if it were set to say 2,000 posts or whatever it may encourage people to participate more, after all this board seems thin lately...

Most other forums, that are just as big, let you create polls. They have no problems and you rarly see them enless theres a reason. I can't say example forum becuase warez is not aloud. :P

We do not need to open tons of forums.

I do like the idea of a personal WebSites forum, but we have the softwareworld. That would be cool to have a sub-forum in software world where we can extange idea, scripts, and help about personal WebSites. As long as we do not have spammers posted links to there site just for hits. :o

Well lets say someone want to figure what people like more, norton systemworks, or System Mechanic. All they have to do is make a poll.

i like the current setup where we have to ask a mod for a poll. I mean is it really that much work to just pm a mod and be like this is what i want for a poll can it happen?

It doesnt bother me any and i have requested a few polls in my time

You have to PM a mod, make sure there on (or you have to wait), then wait for them to approve it, and just mabey it will become a poll.

Allowing polls would result in a lot of spam posts / questions. Allowing it to Senior members only is NOT an option because 1000 posts doesn't say anything about a member.

1000 + posts only show that you know this board since a long time but it doesn't speak for the quality of a members posts. It would also be unfair to new responsible members (like some 30 yo guy / girl which is for sure more serious than a 14 yo senior member). Giving Sr. members more features just makes posts worth more and they are already worth too much (to some people at least).

It was not an attack against young people cause some 14 yo guys act already like olders. I just don't want to give people which know this board longer more privileges than new members.

I just think that new members should have the same rights like Sr. members because posts don't say anything about quality or about a person.

I agree totally with that, but i beleve that polls should be aloud in the Lounge atleast, becuase all it is in there is spam. So there's no reason to bering up the fact that people would spam it.

Well I could name you a few more reasons why the current setup is good.

1.) Mod's won't just deny a poll for no reason
2.) Mod's know if a similar poll does exist already
3.) Some people can't abuse polls to spam their websites (Ex: What do you think about my latest updates on www.somesite.com
4.) Not every poll idea is really worth a poll (or do you want 100 members to ask "Do you think i'm sexy")

I did never hear about an issue that members did complain about mods not adding a poll which means that our mods do a great job so why change working rules if there are no problems at all.

@7th, maybe I'm giveing us to much credit thinking we could be resplonsible enough to have omg Poll privleges, though I agree with all the points you made I just can't see it getting out of hand like that because it dosen't at other forms I've been at. We are not a bunch of drunk teenagers for fk sake, and I'm not talking about lowering the drinking age.

Perhaps try it and see what happens, maybe in just the lounge, though it may get out of hand there, but if it doesn't then my point will truly be made to have it everywhere.

only serious polls - cause if many polls other important
topics can't be found by users who come in here to get
help on kazaa - and this board also should be:

1.a nice place to share your thoughts openly (an it is!)
2.a place where k-lite users (and kazaa users) can get
fast inormation, I am thinking of the fast loading speed
on my dialup, what makes me happy ;) it is the first

Too many or poor content or misplaced.

I imagine most people wouldn't even use it since it takes more effort than posting.

Yes, I think that members should be allowed to start polls in the Lounge, and if they abuse it then they could be sent a warning.
I have seen many other forums which allow polls, and it's not as if they get overrun with pointless polls.

I think it is difficult cause each question could be an interesting poll...

But serious polls maybe these where world issues - not private ones -
are asked?

with todays members, thats actually not the case. many have over 1,000 posts (sr member) in less than a month of being on the board.

To give an example (without bias from others) - ES5's forums give the ability to post polls to any registered member. Now, you can expect to see roughly one or more polls a day, 90% of which are based on trivial crap. I'd say there's roughly only a few members who do it though (most notoriously DaDead ;)).

Yet ESV hasn't really reached the member levels that K-Lite has - So try multiplying that example out to K-Lite's size <_<

I'd personally say keep the poll abilities firm in only the mods' grips - They would probably be cursing such a "liberation" later when they scrape out most of the pointless polls.

That's my point - It works for ESV because it's liberal enough to make it work. The K-Lite board has a strong sense of order - How many pointless/multiple/repeating/abusive polls do you think a mod would have to clear out here?

Maybe if they just remove this button:

we won't be so tempted to even considering making a poll.

Right now, you can have a poll started by PMing a mod - they will happily oblige if it is a sensible poll.

If a poll idea's not sensible enough for a mod to approve it, then it shouldn't be posted anyway.

see this is what pisses me off.

I dont ramble on about how glorious es5 is, YOU showed it to me and told US how glorious it was back in the day. or don't you remember?

I barely ever post at this forum for multiple reasons which I wont get into, but people like you (hypocrites etc.) make me want to leave. I still read many posts but hardly ever actually post. at es5, bad posts/threats etc. are kept to one forum. where people like you can post them all over and it'll get the topic locked or the wrong person moderated.

To much confusion.

Yes I do remember posting about ES5, I guess I should be held responsible for making you a Brainless Monkey then, though I'm sure SharePro helped a little. I also managed to see ES5 and SharePro for what they are with some help from other ES5 members there  . So if you choose to take my advice once, take it again, get the fk out of there, that place is for Paranoid Brainlesss Monkeys. If you have but a bit of brain left GET OUT (I'm screaming now hoping I can get through to the poor child).

As I told you before if you use that crap program because you are worried and paranoid (why else would anyone including myself at one one time) then I will be more than happy to take some time to guide you in other directions that can give you the anonymity your looking for and educate you a little to save your soul, feel free to PM me :) .

However if you wish to continue using ES5 I suggest you tell SharePro your going to stop using ES5, this would cut the user base there by 25% (4 users at the moment if you need me to do the math) then he will make you a mod to keep you on board. Shit at least you'll have the same privlages Welsh has... :P

Also as far as topics being locked anyone that can or wishes may lock this one unless you further choose to debate the issue, however I had a very nice conversation with @7th who made his point well understood to me and I think leaving it the way it is is fine by me.

Oh and if you wish to leave this board, believe me you won't be missed.
