I'm doing a bit of research into prophecy, and was wondering what (if any) resources you guys have. Additionally, if anyone's able to tell me what the Dead Sea Scrolls contain, or the relationship between apocryphal manuscripts and the Catholic Church.

Sure, it sounds boring, but it's not. :D It doesn't have to be Christian prophecy either. Anything from Sumerian to Aztec to African tribal is helpful.

Umm, as far as prophecy is concerned, I remain interested in the notion of the "Gyres".

Yeats embraced it as history come full circle every 2000 years or so.

The Second Coming -- W. B. Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

No... ;) I'd like it more based in history than 1-900.

MN, I wasn't sure if you were addressing me but if so...

The gyres pre-date Christianity and seem, admittedly, loosely accurate.

It's basic history cycles and robed in prophecy. Still.

Sorry Magic, I'm out of my depth.

"Gyres" is an interesting concept though.
I think Clive Barker touched upon that in the Weaveworld stories.

Again, too modern. :(

Nah, I was talking to clocker (and his sidekick Miss Cleo). Your post hadn't appeared when I wrote mine. ;)

I'll have to try to find my ancient religion books. Scary.

Didnt sumarian astronomers know stuff that we've only recently discovered..

ie Mid to late 20th Century.

I think they numbered the planets backwards, and mercury's number was 11 or sth..in addition they knew the colour of planets we only recently discovered.

This is something i heard way back....i'll look it up and see if i got all this right...

Search for planet X (http://xfacts.com/x4.htm)

Planet x...ancient knowledge (http://xfacts.com/x.htm)

Can i say before you all start, i heard stuff on a serious TV documentary, that i neither credit nor discredit. These crank sites are just to let you know what the hell im talking about, and i in no way endorse their views :P

I've heard about Planet X in a few reputable science magazines.

It's strange when you look at a number of the ancient civilizations, and they all have space-related similarities.

Hmmmmm. Ancient Sumerian legends predicted the developement of the CD, the Internet, and...most interesting...grond-to-air heat seaking marmots....now where did I read that?

Magic, one prediction that might be worth following up, is the Mayan prediction that 2012 will mark the end of the world. It will be followed (hopefully) by a new sun....

Nostradamus

At forty-five degrees, the sky will burn,
Fire approaches the great new city,
Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up
When they want to have verification from the Norman
(Century VI, Quatrain 97)

In this phrase, Nostradamus refers to a great city in the new world of America near forty-five degrees latitude. Experts agree this could only be New York.

"The King" is presumed (by me) to be GWBush.... there werent any presidents when this was written......RF

The king will want to enter the new city,
Through its enemies they will come to subdue it
Captives liberated to speak and act falsely,
King to be outside, he will keep far from the enemy.
Garden of the world near the new city,
In the path of the hollow mountains,
It will be seized and plunged into the Vat,
Drinking by force the waters poisoned by sulfur.
(Century X , Quatrain 49)

By fire he will destroy their city,
A cold and cruel heart,
Blood will pour,
Mercy to none.

Earth-shaking fire from the center of the earth.
will cause the towers around the New City to shake,
Two great rocks for a long time will make war,
And then Arethusa will color a new river red.
(Century 1, Quatrain 87)

Another of the great mans....

In the fields of Media, Arabe, and Armenia
Two great armies shall assemble three times
Near the Arabic shore or Persian Gulf
The Israelites on land shall tumble

and...

At the great battle of Armageddon
Shall join the crusade through rows totally attached
The pertanious army of God against the army of the evil Serpent
The Dragon shall be loosened on October third

Always suspected the Welsh would have a hand in armageddon :P
