Let's have a proper discusion this time.

I think England have a good chance if two teams go through automatically. I'm not so worried about France than the other two, given England's record against teams they are expected to beat.

Group A Portugal
Spain
Greece
Russia
Group B France
England
Switzerland
Croatia
Group C Sweden
Italy
Bulgaria
Denmark
Group D Czech Republic
Germany
Latvia
Holland

England should go through, and at least they won't have to play France in the knock-out stages unless they both get to the final.

If it's 2 to go through I would be stunned if they don't.

Do you know who the first and second from their group meet in the next round. 1st and second from which other group.

England should get through the group stages with out too much effort and if they are on form and the draw is kind to them there is no reason they can't make it to the final.

I wouldn't like to pick my favourite team to win it, but it's gonna be between England, Italy, Germany and Spain imo. Wildcard=Holland.

I agree England should go through but as someone once said 'footballl it's a funny old game'! On paper they have a great team but will they gel and find a good balance something they haven't managed in the past? There is always a team or two that defies the odds in tournaments and rise above themselves to get further than anyone would expect, which is always the beauty of tournaments. Switzerland and Croatia on their day can match most and France have a lot to prove after the World Cup debacle. So in other words ....I dunno

@bigboab...don't go there :P

blow it oot yer arse billy boy, your bullshit in the other thread led to it being closed and getting someone put on moderation, after winding them (and others) up to get a reaction.

you coudlnt handle a taste of your own medicine so you grassed on them.

:teehee:

edit - this is the thread where billy boy wanted to have another of his "proper discussions" (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=85123&st=0)

Well, Switzerland and France both topped their groups, so i dont think it will be as easy as people may think, Croatia are a good side too, skillfull and hard to beat.

Germany will always do well and they are my tip, along with Italy to win it.

That's even better for England, we'd avoid Italy and Germany until the semis.

"If" England get through it's my theory they will play either Spain or Portugal, I think England will struggle against both of these teams.

But there's every chance you'd get the hosts Portugal in the quarter finals.

Not only are they hosts but it will probably be Figo's and Rui Costa's last chance to do well in an international tournament.

Well there's no easy games past the group stages, but I'd be happier playing Spain or Portugal early on. Both teams have a habit of doing badly on the big stage...whereas Germany and Italy nearly always do well.

I'd still rather not face the host nation so early.
Just look at the Italians in the last world cup.

I'd like to see England do well, I'd like to think they could win it, but I wouldn't back them, I'd rather get pissed with the money. There's no home and away legs here, three games in the group and that's it. They'll need two wins to get through.

1st of all i just hope we will see some decent football...
Nice and exciting games.
Ah and in the end finals a last minute goal from the germans will decide.... as usual ;)

Germany are in the "group of death" IMO. They'll need to improve on recent performances. The Czechs were from pool A, top seeds, Germany pool B, Latvia C, and Holland D. No easy games there.

i would like to think the so called mighty ENGLAND could go on and win it, but France could win it because of the class of the number one footballer, zinedine zidane, and the top striker in the world for me Thierry henry, and this coming from a liverpool fan who knows his own team would be garbage without the mikester. i just hope germany go out before final because their team is garbage compared to france. But ithink the final four will be portugal, italy, france and england. any of the four should win it. but saying that italy were garbage at the world cup. But they did lose to a really skill south korea team ha ha ha. It a shame turkey not be there as well because i thought they would have annhillated latvia.
But England meet france first and if not lose, could be a good omen to go on and win it, but i just got feeling france will go all the way and Zinedine can retire from international football on a high.

I think you may be right HF, but I'm heartened by France's performance at the world cup, no points, and no goals. Number two highlight, next to England knocking Argentina out.
