View Full Version : How Many Times Do You Edit A Post?

dwightfry

at least 95% of the time I have to go back and edit a post. Sometimes things are spelled wrong, sometimes it horrible grammer, other times I decide to delete unneeded things, but I see now, usually it is because I add things that I should have added the first time. Is there anyone else like me who just can't seem to get it on the first try?

EDIT #1: I decided to go with 95% of the time rather than 90% :D

EDIT #2: Decided to add a smiley to the end of the first edit

EDIT #3: Forgot to mention 'adding things that I should have added in the first place' to the list of reasons why I edit so much.

EDIT #4: I spelled 'usually' wrong

EDIT #5: Decided to add a '#1' to the first edit

EDIT #6: It usually isn't this bad....but close.

EDIT #7: Reworded Edit #3, it was kinda confusing

Sometimes I have to correct punctuation or insert something I forgot in my rush to post.

I am mistake-prone enough normally that I take pains while I'm putting things together to begin with, so my rough-draft is usually pretty much a done thing.

It all gets better with time. ;)

I sometimes type too fast, which allows for all types of mistakes to sidle themselves into my posts, so I guess I'll usually correct a third or so of every post.

It would probably be more if I bothered to fix every tiny thing, I sometimes leave mistakes in if the writing is otherwise legible.

Apart from that I often do not get enough sleep, and that has, needless to say, a negative effect on my typing.

:)

Well, since you brought it up dwightfry, and I sure am glad you did...speaking for myself I find the need to edit only on rare occasions....not because I'm so smart 'cause...well, I'm not. But, simply because I do one little thing before sending the reply....PREVIEW.
I hope by reading your Thread here some visitors will take heed and before clicking on the "ADD REPLY" they first click on the "PREVIEW POST" button. They will be surprised at the grammatical as well as spelling errors that can easily be fixed before posting their reply.
I'm not going to go on a rant (I'm neither a teacher nor scholar) about how bad the spelling is in most Forums....frankly, it's appalling. I realize we have visitors from other countries who do not have English as a first language but, even they will find simple errors that can easily be corrected thus allowing themselves and their comments to be viewed with more affirmation and credance.

May I offer this simple little tool that can easily be added to your IE toolbar. You'll be pleasantly surprised how it will enhance your communication experience as well as your reader's.... :smartass:
click here (it's free) and never misspell a word again (http://www.m-w.com/promos/button/button.htm)

By the way....I left one (I hope) word above spelled incorrectly...CAN YOU FIND IT?
Thanks again!
mrlessk :)

I edit all the time.

Sometimes to repair the mechanics ( spelling, grammar), sometimes to improve clarity, occasionally just because I can.

if i'm not mistaken the mods can turn off that option, so they can edit their post without it showing up

Clocker you dont make mistakes. You may cause them, but that is not your fault. Did you ever have a feeling that there should be a Uriah Heep type smiley.

Normally not at all.

Sometimes once.

Occasionally 2 or 3 times.

Rarely more than that.

Thats because you, like me, are in your fifth decade, when all the kinks have been ironed out.

It's all downhill in the sixth decade, though.

Look at Clocker. :D

Thats because you, like me
I do indeed like you, however I don't really see what it has to do with my correction rate.

Unless you consider yourself an overwhelmingly good influence on my ability to post reasonably well first time.
