Picked up a copy of Deus Ex 2 today and during install (at about 99/100%) a message box basically says " the un-install file in cab3 does not match this one". I had a look at disk 2 and strangely there was a shortcut to the un-install file as well as cab 3/readme/deviance ;) etc.

Anyone else got a working copy ? (Just so I know it's out there and working, I'll get a replacement np tomorrow)

Dodgy Disk ?
Not properly hacked/cracked/burned yet ?

Edit: You can ignore the file then run the game, but the game crashes (not to the desktop like a graphic issue) after you launch the new game screen :(.
After a reboot then launching, a DOS window opens saying "Not enough memory to run the program", I have 1GB of Ram :)

I got it installed but it runs very jerky on my ti 4200 and 256 RAM. even with all video settings on low.

The memory it could be referring to is virtual memory. right click on my computer , properties , advanced, performance, settings, advanced , virtual memory.

Thanx anyway GMT, but I'm 100% sure it's not a memory problem :)

I ran the demo np (Ti 4600).
My pagefile/vm is set at just over 1 1/2 GB, which is more than enough.

If there were no errors during the install and no other games would run (COD/H&D2 etc) then I would assume it to be a graphics/system/driver associated problem.

So you have a TI 4600, how much RAM do you have( i see you have a gig) . im considering buying more RAM or a new card or both.

This game is running very slow

Edit, i see you have a 4600, thats what i need

what are your video settings at. i turned everything down to low, and the frame rate is still pitifully slow

I found the demo to be slightly laggy at 1024 x 768 and above, but ok with the res down at 800 x 600 32 bit. Personally I think it's ridiculous I have to run it at 800 x 600 with an Athlon 2800/Abit NF7s/Ti 4600/1GBpc 3200 400MHz DDR ram. It wont stop me playing Deus Ex though as I thought the first one was excellent.

I dont suppose anyone who has Deus Ex -Invisible War - Disk 2 could list the 4 files that are on the disk so I can make a comparison ? I'm sure the corrupt file is the "uninstall Deus Ex shortcut". It's a small file.

CD 2 has 5 files

Deviance Crack Folder 97.8kb
data3.cab 637 MB (652,919 KB)
Ion Launcher.exe 1.10 MB
readme.rtf 130 kb
Uninstall 1 kb

But why dont you just use CDMage to repair the BIN, i have had alot of corrupted images when i use to get games from kazaa. and CDMage fixed everyone that was corrupt.

Load the Cue for the BIN on CDMage and scan for corruption. then try to Repair Corupted Setors, or if that wont work Rebuild Sector Fields

Thanx for taking the time to reply GMT :)

Sounds like good advice.
Is what your suggesting only relevant for an image though ?

It's a game I bought from the local 'pirates' and the only file that seems to be corrupt or irrelevant is the un-install file on disk 2.

Finally, GMT did you notice if the uninstall file on disk 2 is a shortcut ?
I'm fairly sure thats whats wrong.

It could save me a trip back down to see the 'pirates' today :)

Thanks again buddy :D

Sorted :) (not)

Damn, Feck, ****

I got a replacement disk today and I assumed it would be fine.

But no, still getting the following error during install:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CRC error: The file C:\Program Files\DeusEx2\Uninstall Deus Ex - Invisible War.lnk doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could anyone who has this file (Uninstall Deus Ex - Invisible War.lnk) possibly send it to me so I can try burning another disk.
It's only 1kb :)

Any feedback would be gr8tly appreciated..........it's doing my head in :(

has anyone gotten the 1.1 patch installed on their games ? Im not asking the people who actually bought it cause its supposed to allow you to limit shadows which basically eliminates all lag but mine wont do it cause it says it can't match the files which makes no sense since its all right there as it should be
