HTTP is an easy to use drag and drop file server for personal file sharing. It runs as a standalone executable and does not require any installation. The program is very easy to use, just drag a file into it to share it with the world. You can customize the port it is running on, specify the IP address and monitor connections from the tray icon. HFS presents the shared files on a simple HTML page, that includes the file name and size. With some HTML knowledge, you can completely customize the HTML template to meet your preference. HFS can also integrate into Windows Explorer, allowing you to easily share files from the right-click menu.

My suggestion:

Some of the developers should make an add on for Klite so when we connect to internet with K-Lite we connect to others members with the Http Server ,so we can say Good Bye to fake files , viruses and other shit.If not then :)If 50 % of the people from this board download and install that proggie we can start our own P2P KLBOARD NETWORK.

I have seen this before, it is pretty cool. More like and FTP server not a P@P program.

:D Yup, is very cool we can share everything and no fakes. If we integrate that with k-lite ( an add on) we can make our own network like i said .

First, I want to say that - it is a cool program, I like it and use it a lot!!!! :)

Here are a few points that I think we should consider before trying it as a file sharing:

1. The main thing that is missing is a network-search mechanism. Without "supernodes" type system that will support this - I'm not sure it is useful.

2. Security/internal-search : Anyone can browse your files, unless you use it's user/password system. The current version does not support any search option so - it needs to be enhanced with a search option before it may be useful (together with SN system as I said above)

3. It has no integral multi-source download engine (like Kazaa). It uses a browser client on the other side. So we have to consider some other tools like - "Getright" as a Kazza substitute to help in this.

4. You will need to have people advertise their IP as well as their files-list. So, again, we need our own SNs for that and/or use NOIP/DYNDNS type servises (that will help to have a static list or addresses somewere).

5. Last point - It is very good in downloads. Also have a bandwidth limiter. It does not support uploads for the time being. I think this is not a minus for P2P for file-sharing, but when you will like to add messaging - it will limit you.

So - my openion is - that as it is now - it CANNOT be used. We have to design a more P2P oriented tools around it to build a useful P2P network.

Your URL is not valid...

You can try mine, at My Web Server (http://rafi.serveftp.net)
(user/pass: guest or nothing)

I'll leave it up for an hour...

Sounds like a good idea!

I'm experienced w/FTP but not HTTP. Pros and cons between the two? (Sorry for asking a nb question :"> ).

Man, this sucks, my router wont let me make my own server or whatever. Routers cripple my connection.

this looks like a pretty clever idea
very easy to setup and work

people who want to use this might like to get a static dns account from DynDNS (http://dyndns.org) (for free) :)

Wow, that was hard! LOL! (explaining registration)

Here's the problem. Easily 80% of the Kazaa network, is behind 56K. 99% of them have no better than DSL. Very, VERY few Kazaa users can upload at more than 16KB/sec, or at least that is the experience I have had on every Supernode I've been on.

Since Kazaa's members are mostly dialup, it's all about strength in numbers. Downloading a typical 5MB MP3 file from a dialup user is going to take at least half an hour, and that's if they dedicate all of their connection to transferring that file to you. Not likely. What's more likely is they're trying to download 100 porn movies. (OK, that's a generalization but you get the idea.)

Now, downloading from TEN dialuppers, you can get the song in 3 minutes (30/10=3) IF they're all dedicated to you getting that file. Luckily, there are a few DSL users who can send a little bit more than twice 56K (128K, some are lucky and have 256K up) without hurting their downloads.

Sorry, but this idea wouldn't work, unless you get some people with really high speed connections to support it. And then... no. Cuz then where do the files go? To people too slow to share them.

Something tells me you're thinking in terms of person to person, private trading. Try DirectConnect, though I could never get it to work. People could get my files, but I couldn't download a single byte of data. Hmm.
