Hi guys, want to get a laptop for christmas. Have about a 1000 to spend want to get a good laptop with a 64MB Graphics card, 40GB hard disk and at least 256MB RAM and a fast processor would be nice. Just wondering if you guys know any sites that sell good laptops cheap or know of any deals around.

Also my cousin works for a computer company and can get 15% of Dell and Compaq laptops.

Thanks

Hi, If you're interested, I'm about ready to part with my laptop and I believe it covers all of your requirements if not more. It's worth about 1000 but I'm willing to sell it for around 600.

Give me 10 minutes and I'll post the system specs.

Regards,

Samurai

Just checked my laptop... too embarrased to say what the specs were. Let's just say it's worth slightly less than I originally thought

Pentium? Try Celeron with a clock speed of 550

Haven't really used it that much, that's the worst part about it... paid 1200 when it first come out.

'P2MMX' isn't a chip. ;)

There was the Pentium, then the Pentium Pro, then the Pentium MMX and after that the Pentium 2 (which happens to have MMX support, as do all modern CPUs).

There's no such thing as a CPU branded "P2MMX".

Did you ever sort out your battery problem, Lamsey?

Nope, no-one seemed to be able to provide any easy way of testing where the fault lies. At some point I might risk it and buy a new battery, but it's quite a big risk :(

Oh well.
I'm sure it will make a very attractive candle holder till then.

It still works fine on AC power ;)

I can still use it in uni, in lectures or in labs, just have to find a plug point. A minor inconvenience.

I can also still use it here, so WeeMouse and I can be online at the same time (no more fighting over the keyboard  ).

But it's not as convenient as having a working battery - so I'd not recommend going via eBay for getting a laptop. Too many things can go wrong. Things could have been worse for me.

So, all you need to do is carry a 50ft extension cord with you at all times and you're good to go, eh?

I plug my laptop on one of those on trips for entertainment on the road & maps etc
works good, my old gateways batt is shot and only holds a chargs for about 62 seconds before it cuts off
