MUTE protects your privacy by avoiding direct connections with your sharing partners in the network. Most other file sharing programs use direct connections to download or upload, making your identity available to spies from the RIAA and other unscrupulous organizations.

Yea this does look promising... don't forget though. You need the users...

Someone posted about another one called Exosee. Again, this looks promising.

so, this is a centralised program, which is easy to take down?

Was going to say 'congrats' on noticing that but then I read this (http://mute-net.sourceforge.net/howPrivacy.shtml) and now I'm confused as hell

Looks promising. And what was so confusing about the virtual addresses ? =)

I've got this working now theres a bug in the program go to mute>settings then open seed hosts with notepad.

Clear it then paste this in

mnemonic.dnsalias.net 4900
katcher.2y.net 4900
monolith.2y.net 4900

And save.

It seems when the program first installed
It writes the address as monolith.2y.net:4900 it's the conlons that stuff it up, it works if you have the address as monolith.2y.net 4900 with a space replacing the colon.

Interesting. Looks like I've got two new apps to try after Christma now. ;)

R u guys having any luck finding files or r there still too few users? Wouldn't it be cool if one of the networks was good enough so that all the KL users would be happy to ditch the Kazaa net in favor of this app? Let's see what happens to Sharman's file quality then!

Version 0.2 of Mute (http://mute-net.sourceforge.net/) has been released. No problem connecting with this version, so far.

This looks like a good p2p to use as a second program. Maybe over time it will have more files available. We could contribute and help establish the network.

;) The userbase is still too low and the program is still in it's infancy. Hell it's even hard to connect to anyone. It will be a while before this program becomes usable.

I got this while searching for porn. :P

Wow.
This is the most unstable ap I've ever seen. The Win32 v anyway.

Hope you're having better luck than I am. Well, if you are
reading this you are b/c I haven't been able to download anything.

--- next guy ---

Yea I got this file and am getting more, you have to trade speed
for the privacy and we need more people here to make this work,
but those a-holes want speed and don't understand there won't be
any files if the main BIG file sharers get shut down!

Partial file sharing on this will make it kick ass! Coming soon!

So share and leave Mute up as long as possible. Even if you
have another sharing program running, run both for a few
months and see how this goes!

---2nd next guy---

I echo next guy, leave it up if possible, next versions will get better.

I would be very curious to test this with someone and do a simple netstat while dl something since it would seem an IP would still show up, or is this app claiming I wouldn't see any IP at all, and that I would only see the virtual IP or that I would see someone elses IP such as the IP of a neibour that the traffic is being routed through...

EDIT: After basic testing this does look promising indeed as it appears the only IP that show in netstat are those which are your neibourghs.

Yes, that's all I see are my five connections allowed in settings. I use TCPView to monitor connections. When you download, it comes thru one of these but the source is only a virtual address.

More information and some hashes at the Mute forum. (http://www.forums4free.net/MuteHashes/index.php?act=idx)
