I think this should be pinned.

That was quick - well done.

I noticed I got deleted (deservedly)...but I think pinning this topic was a mistake cos people tend to ignore pinned topics and it's a genuinly interesting topic to some.

Anyhow I'm only posting this cos it'll show on the index board for a while(and cos I'm drunk...)

....know what? I can only speak for myself (still a newbie) and how I peruse these Forums but upon reading what Withcheese said above I then realized....I do not, as a general rule, check pinned topics! Depending on time restraints, I may visit the lounge after some other Forum topics without going to World News and Events (where this thread was moved to and is now pinned).....and would have missed this one.
I was taken to it's present location in World News and Events after clicking on the topic in Lounge, not by visiting World News and Events.
Thought you'd like to know.
mrlessk :)

UPDATE
I believe I know why I personally am not drawn to most Pinned Topics. I just came back on line and opened up KL Forums again and subconsciously found myself scanning by some Pinned Topics. I believe it was because the posted dates were days, weeks, even sometimes months old. To my feeble little mind they were "not relevant" because they were not of "immediate interest". Of course, as we know, they are "pinned" for that very reason and purpose, because they are issues or newsworthy topics that are relevant over an extended period of time. Anything to this? Is there a Psychoanalyst in the house?

 I never look at pinned topics either. Why is that? If something is really important they should just use all CAPS, but keep it in the regular topic area. It's annoying, but at least it grabs your attention.

I don't think this should have been pinned for a number of reasons.

Unless you were in the affected (or surrounding) area you just don't give a hot-tootie.
At work no one even mentioned it (I'm on the east coast though).
As of now there hasn't been many legitimate responses to the topic.

World News and Events doesn't really need pinned topics unless they are of some moral issue that spans time. ex. Death Penalty, Abortion, etc. Other topics will stay viewable on the first page as long as they newsworthy. ex. MJ, WMD reminder.

Sorry I seemed to have derailed this topic with my ramblings...but I think that Nightwolf has a good idea, if you feel that a topic is important (like this one) then maybe you should use CAPS.

If a topic is important enough it will stay near the top all by itself...I don't know for sure but i expect most regulars ignore pinned topics.

Withcheese (sorry im rambling)

Scratch that idea. Apparently the board is set up so that if you type your subject using all caps, it changes all but the first letter of each word to lower case anyway.

Oh well.
