View Full Version : I'm Leaving...

...my organs to charity when I die.

I think it's great that my death, when it does happen, might just help someone else to live.

Anyone else here do the same, or considering it? In the UK and US at least you can be registered with an official scheme of organ donors.

For the US: http://www.organdonor.gov/
For the UK: https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/odronline/s...ydetailsservlet (https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/odronline/servlet/mydetailsservlet)

Other countries probably have similar schemes.

Ever considered it? Put your name down and you might just save some lives :)

That was a good one Lamsey...

Now on topic, it is a noble cause, probably I would do it... I just need them to make abosulutely sure that I'm dead before they take anything.

Lamsey

I'd probably trust the doctors to at least do that

Well, for all those who would happily do it, go ahead and register. It doesn't take much of your time but it would give a lot more time to someone else. :)

Links are above for UK and US, for those in other countries: http://www.mcbriens.net/liam/img/smilies/googleisyourfriend.gif (http://www.google.com)

What about lungs, heart, spleen, etc.?

Or how about donating your brain, eyes, etc. to medical research, so that it can be used to help create cures, medicines and so on which will help thousands? :)

Sorry to correct you there mate but I recently took up the harpsichord - this is very similar to an organ but played by means of the bow!!

In all seriousness(ness), if you do carry a donor card around with you then make sure you tell your family about it. The docs will still need their permission to remove any of your organs :)

Nice one. Forgot about that. Even if you can't be buggered registering, tell your family - if they know your wishes it will be much easier for them.

bigboab: you're stooping a bit low with that one

Here in the states when you get your drivers license renewed is a good time to do it. On the back of the license you just sign your name and get two people to witness it and sign for organ donation. They always ask here where I live, when they issue the license and are glad to witness it too. I do it then or I'm sure I would forget about it. ;)

I'm not sure how the law applies on the state level, but there was a federal ruling recently that made the drivers licence plan worthless.

Your family's wishes and your written will are still the final word.

You get humped playing the harpsichord? I wish someone had told me that thirty years ago.

@ You are really hitting the floor Liam.

I'm off for my Siesta. Getting confused. Humped using harpsichord? :smilie4: There must be a 'G' string joke there somewhere.

Infact come to think of it - no need to wait for my passing - might as well have em now - only condition is the recipient must tell me what they do with them.

The brain is fine and at least one of the eyes is good.

No matter what state your body is in, it still has some medical value; either for transplants or research, it can always be used to help the sick people who will come after you.

In the UK your donated body can end up in a museum (http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/A/anatomists/gallery6.html).
