"It was all about finding a way to do it. That was the tone of it. The president saying 'Go find me a way to do this,'" O'Neill said.

O'Neill also said in the book that President Bush "was like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people" during Cabinet meetings.

Not surprised one little bit. :o ;)

10 hours, and no one has accused you of being anti-American. This must be a record.

Why must everyone post every bit of news in here? Not just that, but OLD news. This story came up yesterday on Yahoo's website.

I'm going to save everyone some time for the next few days. Here are the headlines:

• Hundreds hold violent protests in Iraq
• Chemical agent found in Iran-Iraq war shells
• Democrats flood Iowa with ground troops
• Tacoma named most-stressed U.S. city
• Woman attacked by lion in fair condition
• Vegas landmark Horseshoe Casino closed
• NFL Playoffs · NCAA Hoops · NBA · NHL

Have a good read.

well this is the world news and events forum....what do you suggest people post ?.
please remember that not everyone sits at their computer the moment they awake and check to see just how current the news is, or rush to post when they see breaking news flashes on the TV. many don't get the time to keep up with the going-ons (is that a word ?) in the world until the end of their day.
is there a time limit on starting discussions in this forum ? i admit i didn't go through the rules but if there is could you please link it for me.
if you feel that the topic is too stale for you just don't bother reading it

Bush is an ass and this comes from an American.

I hope someone really brings this old news to the forefront in the election.

Un inspectors you mean. Which were pulled out as the US was about to bomb Baghdad. The reason given for the bombing was that Iraq was obstructing the inspectors, however Iraq had just discovered US spies among the inspectors and asked for those individuals to be removed.

For the record, the US has had plans drawn up to invade Iraq as early as 1958 or so.

Hobbes

It was all to do with the overthrow of the King, whose body was dragged through the streets of Baghdad (if my memory serves me well). There was real concern that the Russians would get their people in. If you recall there used to be a bit of a thing between you guys and the Russians. :D

Saddam and the Ba'athists were seen as less troublesome than the crowd that followed the King, who were overthrown in the 60s, with, I have read, CIA assistance  (again I believe bodies were dragged through the streets of Baghdad - a form of public address system it would seem).

Ironicaly, Saddam will probably be the first deposed Iraqi leader not to be dragged through the streets (although I may be speaking too soon).

Oh what tangled webs we weave.

All we can hope for is a better bad president.

I did like Clinton though. I wish he could run for a third term.
I also liked JFK. He just seemed like a people President.

This doesn't surprise me one bit either. Papa Bush has been after Saddam for years.

BTW, the real reason the US doesn't want to try Saddam is because then he will sing like a bird about all the dealings him and Papa Bush did.

I remember seeing a picture a long while ago where Rumsfeld (sp?) was shaking Hussein's hand...
