Bluetooth Network

i want to get rid of my router so i was wondering if i should switch to bluetooth. i saw one on newegg for 31 dollars each.

i was wondering , if i wanted to network the 2 comp together, i only have to buy 2 and plug one in each comp right? no router or anythign else needed?

how fast is this. i know its not as fast and not ideal for large file transer, but the one im hooking the network to is my mom comp, and she only need internet access...i might play some games over at that comp, so is the speed good enuf so that i wont lag?

I dont know how fast it is, but i use bleutooth to transfer files between my nokia 6600 and my computer

ty racer...so it was desing for comp to mobile electronic? my moms room is right next to mine so im guesing from between my comp and her comp is less then 10meters....unless it cant go through walls lol.

i dont care thingk ill be transfering anythign from my comp to hers so. but is it that simply? buy two bluetooth usb thingy and plug it into the usb port and installed driver and thats it?

I dont think it was desined for mobiles. and yes you can set up an network between 2 computers with bluetooth.

The normal range is about 10 meters, but there are adapters that reach up to 100 meters.

But if both computers have a networking adapter.. why not get an crossover cable for a few bucks?

it says that it is 720kb/s which isnt very fast seen-as most high speed internet connections are around 1.5-3mb/s, so you wont be getting the full potential of your internet connection.

im not sure if these things can go through walls but if they can Im guessing it will greatly reduce your speed. (probably to like 400kb/s or less)

btw, whats wrong with your router? i use a router and i love it, except for having to open ports for online games thats an annoyance.

i would only bluetooth for a shared connection, that way your net is still fast... no offense but only if you mom is an extreme gamer... :lol: or if she looks at lots of porn :rolleyes: will she really need the full bandwith... gees, i th9ink bluetooth goes through walls... but i know i sure don;t... :frusty: :lol:

Bluetooth however wil work... just not as good...

my question while all the bluetooth pros are here, is if i can put a bluetooth usb in my PS2 and use that instead of having to run cables?? for internett..

Bluetooth is lame and a waste of money. Look into a wireless broadband router (plus wireless pci adaptor), they have speeds of up to 54 Mb/s, otherwise stick to your current router.

Wireless routers maybe more expensive, but i can guarantee if you buy bluetooth you will throw it out in a few weeks. 720kb/s WTF :angry:

I swap data between my computers using an external USB 2 hard drive. Its 480 Mb/s and even that isnt quick enough for my liking, so imagine how long it will take to shift files through 720k connection :blink:

i already have a currnet wireless network set up. jst dont like the router...its been gay the last few weeks...dlign is slow, ping is horribly high so i thought bluetooth is gonna be better...at least i dont have to deal w/ all the port forwarding stuff


so imagine how long it will take to shift files through 720k connection the same amount it will take me to download something? i have 640k

Do not use bluetooth. It was designed to be part of a PAN (personal area network). It puprose was to get rid off all the wires from behind your computer like the mouse, keyboard, printer, cell, pda, etc. It was not designed to connect 2 computers together. They made it only have a short range on purpose so that it only connects things to your own computer and for security reasons. I don't think that it can go through walls very well.

Also, ive used a bluetooth mouse with my friends computer. It really sucks. It would always lag a little even thought it was a new computer and the mouse was about a foot away

Just go with a real wireless router. 802.11b is all most people need and it keeps getting cheaper and cheaper.

You should be able to get 54 Mb/s wireless PCI adaptors for less. If you have spare pci slots on the two pc's then buy a pci adpator instead.

okay, i just found this deal (http://www.hsn.com/cnt/prod/default.aspx?webp_id=1488964&web_id=1488964)i dont know if it uses bluetooth or what exactly btu it seem good. indoor it says it can go up to 100 meters but from my room to my mom is about 5 meter. the thing i like about that deal is the payment option...i can payments which give me money left to spare. what u guys think.

This seems good, but a bit expensive. I would still recommend the 54 Mb/s wirelss router option (plus adaptors)

Data transfer speed is important because you will want to swap files between the pc's. If you have a quick connection it makes things more convenient.

my moms hdd is 40GB and half of that are my games...so i dont think there is any room left for file swapping...im not planning on swapping any files anyways. so i guess ill go w/ this cuz im jsut sick w/ router.
