Thanks pol.

Well mine was a yes obviously, I can't see any reason why not.

BTW, it was bigdawgfoxx's idea in this (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=98768&view=findpost&p=861928) thread.

If everyone was able to start a poll, not only will the board be full of polls everywhere, but it will be another method of flaming.

Angry members will start polls like "I think [Insert Member Here] is an asshole, do you?"

If you want a poll, PM a mod and ask, 95% of the time our friendly mods will make the poll for you.

Skillian
02-10-2004, 04:47 AM
This would be a section just for polls, to stop people posting them all over the board - a compromise between the two.

@ KrackHead2K- that's what Moderators jobs are... to moderate!

and I'm sure you wonderful Mods could handle it... :)

A better idea would be to have a request a poll topic in everything related to this forum. Where members can post a request for a poll, then if any of us mods think it's a good poll then we will add it for You.

Having a poll section is not a bad idea. People who are concerned about junk polls let it be. If its too flaming delete it. And let that section have a maintenance cycle. By the end of a week of the poll started the poll is deleted. :D If a poll is worth keeping, then keep it otherwise delete them after a week of that poll.

Also, it will kill the fun out of a poll if anyone could make one anytime they wanted.

I like polls and I think some people on here are too paranoid - other forums let you have polls and they haven't got out of hand.
Maybe add a poll room to the lounge only, where members can start polls, even if not in the other parts of the forum.

Agrajag
02-10-2004, 11:25 PM
I voted yes, as i said I would in the original thread. I think it is a good idea and could be fun. Anyone who is not interested in polls, or a specific poll does not need to look. If you think a poll is cruel or offensive or breaks a board rule then report it, the same way you do with any other thread.

Big yes for me, I do not see how it can do any harm and it may add a bit of fun to the board. It will be interesting seeing people coming up with interesting ideas for polls and for options within them.

If admin and the mods are asking if we want a bit more freedom on the board, what is wrong with that ? Great idea, imho.

{I}{K}{E}
02-10-2004, 11:30 PM
No, or it should be a sub-forum in the lounge.
But it will ask a lot of work for the mods....

Aaron_T
02-10-2004, 11:57 PM

As I understand the Poll, it is about a Poll section. Not about Polls anywhere people want them. As long as it is subject to the same rules as other threads, reporting etc, how can it do any harm ? How can it cause the mods any extra work ?

People can ignore it if they want, most people ignore bookworld and you want to see some of the perverted $hit that goes on in there

i voted YES

but i believe that people should be able to poll anywhere.

whats the worst that could happen? Instead of a thread "Who has the biggest...." in the lounge which is flamed and spammed, a poll is created "Vote for who you think has the..."

If its rubbish, people wont poll/post so itll drop down off the screen, and if its offensive, then a post which would have been in its place prob would have been anyway, and itll be closed/locked/deleted.

Why not make the lounge pollable - its full of shite anyhow

Billy_Dean
02-14-2004, 08:05 PM
It seems strange that we can post any kind of shit in the lounge, yet have to ask permission for a poll.

Why can't we just make them? Especially when it seems to be an arbitrary decision whether or not your request is granted.

l've already been turned down once today, even tho many people asked for one in the thread.

So l ask again, can this be a poll please?

Do you think we should be allowed to make a poll when we feel like it, like every other forum?

<_<

This has been asked before BD, there was in fact a poll about it last week I believe. But as we both know there will be no changes to the board that the admin don't approve of... ;)

Unfortunately I think if we could all create polls then we would have the lounge full of them...some of us (myself included) are bad enough with our spam threads...

I do think it was unfair that you had your poll request turned down though... <_<

If You have an idea for a poll then post a request in "everything about this forum" if a mod consider it to be a fair/good/nice poll then some of us might add the poll for You.

Allowing 100,000 of members to create polls is NOT a good idea.

I think the poll was whether we should have a Poll Room. Not Polls everywhere just there.

I voted yes, because if someone was not interested in Polls they could just stay out of that room. Everybody would be happy that way.

You seem fairly ticked off that I didn't put your poll up, BD, even though I explained why I wouldn't. The reason it was denied has absolutely nothing to do with who asked for it, and everything to do with basic respect. Had anyone else asked me, the answer still would've been no.

You'd need more than one though so there's at least one online most of the time..........better to distribute the job between the current mods.

I've found the current system works ok though :)

Someone please explain the difference between the unlimited capacity to post any kind of shit, anywhere you like, and a poll? A poll is just another thread. l can ask if you stick your fingers up your arse, or smell the shit on the toilet paper, but l'm not allowed a poll about internet.news being a mod. Does that make sense? And the excuse that it's heaps extra work for mods is just crap! How does a poll create any more work than a thread?

@Billy_Dean

but l'm not allowed a poll about internet.news being a mod. Does that make sense?

There is a huge difference between a poll and a poll to insult others. You asked to add the internet.news mod poll within your post but you also PM'ed a mod with more details about what you really want to know. After this PM it was clear to or team what you really want to see (flaming / insults ?)

Asking for:
"Should internet.news become a mod ?" (even if this will never happen)

and

Should internet.news replace Lamsey as mod?
(that's what your PM said)

are two very different cases.

Your PM is insulting and also the reason why we didn't start it

I have no idea what your point is but you should really start to think before you post because most of your posts are flame catchers.

Well l am sorry Mr Judge, Jury and Executioner. We had the thread anyway, did you bother to read it? As you are not part of the lounge "community" maybe you don't understand how we work? It was not a flame, and it didn't turn into one. l am also getting sick of being pulled up and told what l'm thinking by people who should know better. If you didn't like the bit about replacing Lamsey you could have not included it. l didn't write the thread then ask for a poll, l asked first.

If you don't want me here, fucking ban me, or get off my back! l'm sick and fucking tired of having my own rules on this board. Go pick on someone else!

This one topic is not the issue. The issue is that you are ALWAYS trying to defent yourself infront of other users while you KNOW what the problem is.

I don't care about this one topic cause it was actually pretty funny (the suggestion alone) but I don't like if you question our team with things like:

but l'm not allowed a poll about internet.news being a mod. Does that make sense?

You know why we didn't add this poll and this is not the first time trying to get others on your side just to be prepared for the day you have to leave.

I posted this public just to make sure that you are aware what I think cause I don't want to see another "Why did nobody tell me" once it is too late.
