33.3%=1/3(one third)

yeah everyone understand that.

so times 33.3% by 3 to get 1 (three thirds)

33.3%X3=99.9% so 1=99.9% not 100%

ah the maths world have been blown apart!!!

i beat the system!!!

Not really - 33.3% is an approximation to 3 significant figures (or 1 decimal point) of one third. i.e. while 33.3% is similar to a third, it is not equal to a third (or to be truly technical, exactly identical to a third).

So while 1/3 * 3 = 3/3 = 1, 33.3% x 3 = 99.9% = 0.99, NOT 1.

Sorry about that - Approximations can be a bitch :P

yes true BUT

no matter how many decimal point u go to it still works 33.3333333333%X3=99.9999999999

33.3333333=99.9999999%

yet it is still 1/3 not equalling 1.

ha i beat the system AND Illuminati!

It's really 33.33 repeater, but thanks for the valiant effort. I would love to see the world of maths blown apart.

1/3 is not finitely representable. That means there's not enough paper in the world to write down 1/3 exactly using decimal expression.

1/3 does not equal 33.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333%

It's called a Non-terminating Decimal. (1÷3=0.3333333 bla, bla, bla ad infinitum)
Try 5÷11

yeah but it doesnt matter. howevere many 3's it has its always not gonna equal 1 at the end!

thats the whole [point. Add a million 3's on and it still isnt 100%

So represent it as 100/3 and be done. There is no need to resolve the equation unless you choose to.

You're missing the point, you can't correctly represent 1/3 as a decimal. Just like you can't correctly represent pi
