Furby??

http://www.virtualpet.com/vp/farm/furby/furbybw.jpg

CUDDLY--AND WITH AN ATTITUDE
SMART TOYS DON'T NEED A LOT OF COMPUTER SMARTS. Witness Furby, a garrulous and ingratiating new fuzzball that could be this Christmas' Tickle Me Elmo. Like many other chip-enhanced dolls, Furbies talk, giggle, open and close their eyes, and respond to pokes, tilts, or tickles. But this latest electronic pet is amazingly convincing--in part because, like real pets and some family members, its reactions are a bit out of whack. Furby's inventor, David M. Hampton, planned things that way. In the process, he saved Furby's manufacturer--Tiger Electronics Ltd., a unit of Hasbro Inc.--a bundle in manufacturing costs.
To hold Furby's list price to $30, less than one-third the cost of Microsoft Corp.'s ActiMates Barney doll, Hampton and the Tiger development team used some ingenious shortcuts. Instead of expensive communications circuits--the kind that permit wireless messaging among various computer devices--Furbies exchange crude infrared signals to trigger spontaneous-sounding giggles and goofing sessions. As for processors, the toy's silicon brain is a low-cost Asian variant of the chip that powered the original Apple II.

Furby has trouble doing two things at once, and that's just fine, since carefully crafted software rules give the illusion of complexity. Talking, for example, always takes priority over listening. So Furby sometimes seems a little unresponsive--not unlike some children we all know. Likewise, while the toy is in motion, its sound sensor automatically switches off, which saves battery power and prevents motor noise from confusing the sensor. Furby's 1,000 bits of trainable memory manage a vocabulary of just 200 words. But these words get combined in ways that even the inventor never predicted. The effect compares favorably with a hamster, and beats the heck out of a pet turtle.[/

Get a non-shedding lop earred (they tend to be smart)rabbit. If male, you must get it neutered, probably a good idea for a female as well.

Rabbits tend to get scared quite a bit and tend to release tons of hair in the process. Do not get a shedder!

Mature male rabbits like to mark their territory with extra stinky urine and tend to bite. Mine welcomed me from the shower one morning by leaping in the air and sending a stream of urine across my ankles. We visited the Vet the next day.

I had a dwarf rabbit (3-4lbs mature), he was quite smart but they tend to be a little nervous and their immune systems are a bit suspect from too much inbreeding.

Rabbits will also tend to jump up on your bed and wake you by licking your face (usually the inside of your nostril), I was always afraid I would move during sleep an crush the little bugger.

Rabbits should be pets, not captives in a hutch. They can be effectively litter trained, just like cats, but I would use newspaper not cat litter.

They need something like pinecones or wood to keep their teeth filed down and they do need their nails clipped. You can do this by flipping the rabbit on his back, it puts him in a semi-trance, no joke.

Rabbits like to be rubbed along the nose and petted with the grain of their hair. They will grind their teeth which equals "purring".

A relaxed rabbit will assume the stretch limo postion:

Very cheap to feed.

Dangers: They chew on stuff. #1 killer is chewing through electrical wires. Mine did this to my refrigerator and a lamp. No harm came to the rabbit for reasons unknown, but it did singe his whiskers into little curly pubic hair looking things.

My rabbit also found my college diploma and tore it to shreds. He told me later that he had no respect for my University. So be careful!

BTW, my parents cats and dogs didn't really bother my rabbits. The cats were declawed and only one attempted to revive his hunting instincts by putting a paw around my large rabbits shoulder. The rabbit was rather unimpressed, and the cat kind of got confused and walked away.

Ferrets smell like piss and are always getting into trouble.

ferrets are nasty bastards imo.... one of the few things i ignored when i worked at the pet store. If u want something furry, my personal fave in a chinchilla..... but if you dont have much space, how about an egyptian spiny mouse? they're better than regular stupid mice..... or a rat..... but yeah if you want bigger get a chinchilla. They're adoreable, really friendly (get it young tho), n dont stink up ur place like ferrets do.
