Australian Broadband Rip Off

I'm so pissed off at the prices that you have to pay for broadband in Australia for instance if you want, say 256/64 adsl/dsl you have to pay $AU64.95/$US30-35 a month with a download limit of 1gb a month + $0.15c per mb over that and thats this cheap site

which is shit expensive for p2p as i would eaisly go over that 1gb by downloading two avi's , so i stick to 56k.

while people in the UK are geting broadband for $AU100 a month with 1gb a day limit thats not even really enforced, these companys in Australia are riping us off!

That's if you can get an ISP to actually service your area. I live just outside of Brisbane and decided to move up to broadband but can't find an ISP that wants to take my money.

I pay $30 us dollars a month for 328kbs down 128 up with no limits
and i think THAT is expensive.you guys got it REALLY bad :(

Thats bad, I thought bt broadband was bad (576k download, 256 upload, £30 a month). One GB a month is ridiculous!. Where having protests to remove the 1gb a day cap. I feel sorry for you guys.

Only the difference I live in Europe. For the 256(down)/64(up) "broadband" rip-off I pay 36-38&#036; per month. Thanks God, I don&#39;t have a download limit, but my bloody ISP restricts "foreign traffic" from 08:00 till 18:00 on working days. :angry:

well im on ADSL with a company called Vintek otherwise known as Internode
www.internode.on.net or www.vintek.net
and i have Unlimited 256k down and 64k up
for &#036;90 a month AUS and that is the best deal around at the moment
plus its quite reliable
yes we are being ripped off but the prices are going down slowly
so just hang in there you see australia has only just got into the broadband world in the past 3 yrs and when it first came out it was cheap as but it went up for some reason and its gradually coming down
whatever you do dont go with Tesltra they are the worst ISP in the land
and should be shot in the ass for their untolerable service they aren&#39;t as bad as say AOL for instance but they are the worst for broadband in australia and Connexus is just a complete rip off look at their prices they suck big chunky ones they think we are just made of money, anyway moving back onto the subject if we just wait a while i thihnkthe prices will go down and eventually we will have great deals and enjoy the internet more . the country needs to switch up from dialup to broadband and then i think the more users we have that use broadband in AUS then the more the prices will go down, but thats just my opinion and i bet your reading this thinking that i am just blabbering, and thats fair as i typed so much crap here but thats because i am outraged but ill live with what i got im not paying for it but im sure the old man would like it if he could save a little extra &#036;. his business pays for my internet so im not crying just crying for others that are suffering on these useless 1gb download limits my mate came over the other day and downloaded like 500mb on my connection and loved the speeds he downloaded it in about 5hrs and was happy to get the good speeds rather than crappy 56k dialup. any ways i better go play some games and finish my pizza (dominoes of course best pizzas around). cheers

hey junkyard - if ya want a good service provider for adsl check out www.iinet.net.au - there pricing and plans are very good

im on the 512/128 plan - &#036;80 per month - 12 gig limit (it aint refreshed every month btw) but if you manage your account well you wont get shaped - uploads are free - if you exceed the 12 gig lim you get shaped back to 72k but hey 12 gig is nice - check em out - if ya find an isp offering a better service lemme know

also agree with shifty regarding telstra - they are complete and utter scumbags

heh i know what its like im on optus@home cable and only get 3Gb a moth for AUD&#036;70 im lookin to chage if i dont get a plan with no limits im sick of getting capped half way through the month which is slower then dial up :( :angry: :(
