if u can read this, is the bios and post etc viewable all except for in windows? restart the computer and as its starting press f8 then go to vga mode. it will reset the drivers to default and should undo ur overclock (if that is the problem).

Bigdawg, if you bother reading this, open PC in safe mode. Reverts to Window's crappy VGA drivers, then roll back drivers. You may have screwed up the Catalyst 4.3 install by having an antivirus on or something.

atiVidia
03-13-2004, 07:17 PM
either that or he picked the drivers up from a bad place <_<

or he OCed till it died

or... this onesseems to be the most plausible explanation: he shorted out a voltage control chip... bigdawg did u open ur case and mess around with ur card before this happened?

its probably just overheating, check around those litle connectors first to make sure you didnt damage the card, and if not then your good for returning it.

and about teh spyware, i dont think you got that from your old video card, maybe you clicked some stuff when u couldnt see the screen and that got the spyware.

dude they wont refund your money.

it's been over 3 months already. the warrenty says 1 years means they'll send it to the manufacturer and fix it for you, not refund it

you have to send the card in for repairs now and wont get your money back.... <_<

Run adaware, its just something you downloaded that is changing your computer around. No graphics card ever has stuff installed that does that as far as I know of.

As for replacing the card, fill out an RMA form online through newegg, its over 1 month, so u cant get a refund, but you can send it in for a replacement. Just package it all up in the box u got it in, hope u kept it, including all cables cd's etc, put the RMA number on the front of package, ledgibly, and mail it off to their place.

Just hope they take it seeing as how you removed the heatsink/fan.

bigdawgfoxx
03-14-2004, 06:08 AM
I never removed it lol

I already ran adaware..i duno..ill just reformat lol....

so I can still rma it even tho its 3 months old?

If you removed the heatsink fan then you voided your warranty, bigdawg. The 9700 Pro has a rather strange attached heatsink, and I am pretty sure that they wil notice. I think it overheated after you removed the heatsink. Is that the issue?

he probably started to get it off but since he couldnt get it off he thinks it didnt at all come off. but the transfer of heat between the card and heatsync is probably lower now so it overheated.

that or he scratched the card.

bigdawgfoxx
03-14-2004, 04:44 PM
no, it didnt budge at all...none...zero..i looked at it and was going to take it off...but after looking at stuff realized it would not come off so i just stuck it back in haha..oh well theres no physical damage and u cant tell.

My score was so low cuz i had it all set on quality haha

And I set the card on the lowest settings I could after it was messed up...really slow speeds..and it was still wierd.

GrubMe

Yeah... for sure its overclocking it.
I never overclock graphics card the first time its dope, but for a year or 2 the preformance will be all sluggish and burn out.

That is why you need ALOT of cool air around your graphics card if you decide your overclocking it. I have 2 fans around my graphics card 1 from the graphics card + heatsink, and one from the side of the case fan.

Many companies and computer stores are strict when returning overclocked video cards, its not in there Terms of Agreement / Warranty. Hope they don't notice that you overclocked your graphics card.

Good luck ;) .

Hey, if newegg takes it back, you are stoked! However, if you happened to remove the that strange thermal pad that came with all 9700 Pro's, they just might notice. I surely would hope that you can get either your money back or a 9800 Pro!
