Guests can read the forums since around 2 weeks (many people complained that they could not read without registering)

As long as they don't cause lag it's ok - if they start to cause lag I will disable it again.

I think the reason for all the guests are all the sites that recently closed (sharereactor & others) so expect a few more registered ones soon :)

why don't you have question section for n00bs to post, like a general section for how-to, it works in other file sharing forums.
people can post in this section only till they join
its not fair to have all our work for people to never, ever contribute (sign up)

We do have a guest section, but it is invisible to members, to avoid spam.

Thanks for the heads up...now we'll be sure to watch out for you :P

On another note............

Besides the Guest section is not intended for help. They will not get any help only encouraged to sign up if they want help. Primary use of Guest section is for assistance if they cannot get on the board after registering, nothing more provided to them.

If we were to open up a guest section again, chances are we would lose the opportunity to get members vs. giving what they need without registering. Non-beneficial for the board in essence of growing :(

Make'em take an IQ test.

 FlatFace.net does this and I think it's great.

When they sign up, show the agreement for the board. Make it long. Somewhere in there, hide two pieces of info which I'll tell you about later.

Put an extra field named IQ in, which'll be a random 6-digit number that's posted in the agreement.

Then, have a fake submit button... and 20 other submit buttons. Tell them which one to click in the agreement.

Yes i have noticed the scam of the guest section and it has confirmed my thoughs on how KLF is a member hog between the guest thing and the no advertising rule well it points to it being true.
