I just got a nice e-mail from my ISP. They think i generate a lot of data-traffic ;)
this month they measured 200 gig (till the 20st) 90gig upload and 110gig download.
They say that's about the limit within their fair use and ask me to reduce the activities. This was the 1st time i reached 200gigs a normal month is about 170gigs

Well that made me curious, how much gigs you all use (up and down) and if you ever had a message from the ISP? Now be honest

I have a uploadlimit of 10gig but I easely cross that every month.
Combined I have something in between 11-20gigs per month
But my ISP won't complain about it because there's an option to buy 5gig packets for 5 euro. You can buy as much as you want and what remains of it at the end of the month you still get to use the month(s) after. If I don't buy an extra 5gig package my speed get's cut back to that of a 56k <_< So i'ld rather spend the 5 euro's on an extra 5gig.
The only message I get is when I cross it but they don't complain, they just advertise that I can buy a package

if you are on a aup ( accepable user poloicy ) eg unlimited account , in the small print they have a right to cap or disconnet you if they think you have downloaded too much

i agree 200 gig is a lot and maybe they are right to warn you

btw , 200 gig is a huge amount and you must be downloading 24/7

i think you must be fairly new to downloading , as once you get over your initial surge in downloading everything you can get your hands on, you will find it will decrease and in the end maybe 30 to 40 gig a month is all you use

hey if you share all this download u get then good on you but man , choose what u download , and make it good stuff, not crap

if you get chopped or capped then its your own fault, play within reason

just a tip from me lol

I've only just got a 2 meg connection but so far this month I've had a combined data-traffic of 130 gb (80 down 50 up). So I'd say it'll probably end up on 170 gb this month.

I have no cap from my ISP but I wonder how long it will be until I do get a letter...(I'm with Blueyonder).

btw , 200 gig is a huge amount and you must be downloading 24/7 No i'm not. just have a pretty fast connection (7800kb down 1024kb up)

i think you must be fairly new to downloading , as once you get over your initial surge in downloading everything you can get your hands on, you will find it will decrease and in the end maybe 30 to 40 gig a month is all you use
:D this one is funny to me. No i think i'm around since somewhere in the eighties

100 gig down isn't much anymore. A dvd rip is between 4 and 8gig a dvd rip from a game is like 3gig. So with 10 movies, 5 games and some music i reach the 100gigs down pretty easy.
but i guess you're right in one way
choose what u download , and make it good stuff, not crap maybe i just got to go back and dl divx avi's instead of the dvd rips , will help me keep out of troubles :)

I used to have about 30gig combined transfers but since I got my new connection this went up. Untill now I have dl&ul 44GB I think I will have something between 50 - 60 by the end of the month

hmmm, cant vote cause i never really tallied a monthly figure
but when i had emule running it was pretty common to upload 4-5 gigs per day
(on a simple cable connection)
downloads....well....hard to say, cause i didnt d/l 24/7

never got a notice from my ISP, but then i dont have jetje's speed :P
(with that kind of speed i would get notified within a day)

I usually download from newsgroups (constant 58kB/sec download on 512k adsl) and upload through soulseek and/or eMule.

The program I (and others in this thread) haved used is called DUMeter :)

Well combined I stay at a rather constant 50gb per month. I keep it there because my ISP has caps and I don't want to hear them bitch and whine. Generally I just keep my dl at 1gb per day to make it simple and also do most of my dling at off peak hours because I actually like the service I have and think that dling at off peak hours helps avoiding putting a strain on my server and neighbors during business hours...

At tops, I download 10GB a month. My ISP has no caps at all - so my happiness is fulfillingly sustained.

Wow Jetje, you are lucky. Most our ISP's allow for private use is 15 Gb. After that you are paying business rates. Can I ask what you pay for that and where you are located (understand if you don't want to give out too much info).

€79,- a month (with the current rate like $87,- US) located in the Netherlands.
We're pretty lucky over here that there is a big battle going on between ISP's.
And that you have the choice between multiple ISP's and/or cable/adsl all over the country. That gives us pretty nice speeds and prizes. also the governement get's involved in building Internet infrastructure. Einhoven and Almere providing glassfiber in the houses. Which gives the people who live there 10MB up and down for only €90,- a month with the intention to go to 100MB up and down within a year or 2  that's why i think it's time to move soon

My ISP has set a limit on 1GB per day download. I always go over this, and haven't had any sort of communication from them. I know for a fact that staff working for the ISP pay no attention to this rule either...

Plus, if I only download 600MB a day, what happens to the other 400MB I didn't use? Well, I believe it's just hot wind they're blowing about slowing other users down. They're a huge ISP, so they can go to hell

Same here -- sometimes it could be 10 d/l -- 0 u/l a day or vice versa it really depends on what i want and what i have, most of it happens when i sleep and i just clear it all when i get up to get my d/l's back up to speed(tip) so I stopped checking years ago, luckily good ole comcast has never said a peep, except that time we tried to modify our regulatory d/l u/l speeds, lol, Even if you make it you never really make it.

Polls are cool maybe u could do this one = Has your use of filesharing progs such as movies influenced you to view more foriegn films? -Reason being, it has for me, and I have seen some really good ones to. Which has also influenced me to buy a copy [i.e] "Life is Beautifull" :cry1: which normally I would not have ever watched or purchased. The same goes for music as well from classical to trance any non verbal music is easily enjoyed universally. So fileshareing isn't always so "evil". Or maybe I'm just a sucker...LOL

I'm on 512/128 Unlimited ADSL plan with my ISP Internode (Australia). We don't have any download limits on this plan, but what happens if you become too much of a download whore is that you get "prioritized". This means that users who download less get higher priority of available bandwidth, which means that your speed goes down IF there are a lot of people using the service who download less than you. You can avoid this simply by downloading at off-peak times, when you still get your full speed regardless of how much you've downloaded. This is not like speed-shaping, where you get slowed to modem speed once you hit a cap. You can get your priority back simply by backing off on the downloads for a few days if you want to download during peak times. I think this system works very well, as the slowdown is not that much even if you've raped the connection! And Internode propbably wouldn't care less if you downloaded even a terabyte a month because the prioritization system ensures everyone gets a fair shake. And this plan costs only 100 AUD per month.

Internode ROCKS!!! B)
