Hi,

I've pretty new to K-Lite, and not entirely sure if it's a problem or not cause my MSN contact say they don't get it.

Anywho, when I boot up K-Lite, and I look at my w/e is d/l'ing under the Traffic tab, hardly anything d/l's higher then about 2kb/sec, but everything out side of K-Lite that I d/l is around 80-100kb/sec. Like I say not sure if it's a problem or not.

So, I'm really new to the whole thing, it's a great piece of software, but I don't know very much about it, sorry to sounds newbish. :(

I read in previous threads about people 'jumping supernodes', which I looked up in the 'help' index but couldn't find out anything, plus I don't know if it would help.

I have a broadband connection, and am currently using K-Lite++ v2.43, although I've used multiple versions.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm ultra stupid, so please explain things in a language uber idiots like me can understand. :P

your download speed depends on the # of sources for it and their upload speed, anddon't be fooled by whatyou see in the search window they are not an indication of who is available for connection so change supernodes to see if you get lucky, also use localized supernodes, also try changing ports, and lower your upload bandwidth, remove the no ip sources from your dat files and see if it helps , and if you have a router you need to getkanat (http://www.fasttrackhelp.com/development/ftfakes/)

to jump supernodes go to file>jump supernodes

You behind a router? And don't bullshit, you didn't edit anything. :)

Just a thought, but are you running more than 1 P2P application, as your download speed will be shared.

Nope.

You mean like Morpheus, etc? Nope, Just Kazaa Lite.

After looking back through a few threads, I found a link to KLR v0.0.7, so I'm using that right now.

I can sometimes get d/l speeds of around 80kb/s, but say, the other 9 d/l's are around 0.x kb/s.

I've tried a few hints throughout the forum, but is there any tips to use, anything to tweak to enhance the speeds? Oh yeah, and I use Kazaa Ignite since yesterday.

Thanks in advance.

your files have no sources

Thanks....

How might they get sources? Please.

if you know of any you can add them in with k-dat or jump supernodes or try different country suppernodes

If you normally can only download 80-120, then you will not have multiple downloads running at individual speeds of 80 Kb/s, as you maximum download speed with combined downloads will only be 80-120 Kb/s. Sounds like you are expecting each download to run at same speed but this is not the case.

Oh I see, I think I'm getting there. :)

So it's natural to have one or two d/l's running ultra fast, while the rest crawl along?

Any tips that might help boost anything? I've heard in other threads that some of the default options should be tweaked and such, I dunno.

Guess I should consult the 'Help' tab again, no idea how to do any of that, except the Jump Supernodes, again I'm an idiot, and a particuarly slow learner.

Infinite thanks for the help so far guys! Don't give up on me!

You could use NetLimiter to limit connection speed... but you'd have to do this with every single thread.

I signed up at the forum from your link MUSLEMAN.

I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard this a zillion times, but, I'm lucky if I get 80kbs d/l's, more often then not I see everything crawling along at 4/5kbs, and should I be lucky enough to get 50kbs+, it's not long before it drops down to the crappy speed like all the others, since yesterday I've found myself 'jumping supernodes' as much as once a minute. <_<

I've started looking into eMule, this hour in fact, didn't understand something, the readme didn't cover it, so I gave up and went back to KLR, lol.

Long story short, before I start a thread over at the linked forum, any hints or tips?

lol do this

please do a test, search for van halen?s "right now" and wait untill you get 30 or more sources and then pick for download and tell me what you get make sure your traffic is paused or clean

133731
03-27-2004, 06:26 PM
OK, sorry to ask but what are 'sources'? I see things like 2 'users', I usually go by bandwidth for what I think will pick upa decent speed, again I still know shit.

But I did a search for what you asked, with a clean traffic and it had a speed of 35kbs, then slowly dropped to around 20-ish kbs.

Users are sources.

And it appears that your connection is working properly. :)

What makes you say that? Don't get me wrong you know more then I do.

But something don't feel right.... Kazaa seems to throw mixed signals at me, I can 'jump supernodes' till I'm blue in the face....

Would any of you happy chappys be so kind as to reccomend a limited amount of d/l's? Maybe 4 or 5 at a time? Hell has anybody made a dummys guide to Kazaa yet?

Seriously guys, I'll take anything.

BTW thanks so far guys! :D

It sounds like everything is working fine but you are having trouble understanding how it works. Seems like you maximum download speed is between 80-120 Kb/s. So the total number of simultaneous downloads will add up to around that figure. If you are getting around that figure then that is normal.

Download speeds also depend on the speed on the connection of the person you are downloading from. If you look at your uploads then you will see the speed is lower than yous (will be at least half, probably more). As a rule your upload speed will be half your download speed.

Have a read through this forum to help get a better understanding of how it works.

well then seems ok, don't go by bandwidth but look for a lot of users

if there are no connectable users then there is nothing you can do

Or actually worse -- it's not uncommon to only have 1/4th (or LESS) as much upload speed as download speed.

Even if you can download at 150+ KB/sec, you probably cannot upload faster than 30 KB/sec. If you can, you're really lucky and probably paying quite a bit for your internet connection ...or SOMEONE ELSE is! :P

And since almost everyone's connection is that way, the average overall download speeds is no more than the average upload speeds.

Also, if you're new to Kazaa, I STRONGLY recommend you get yourself a copy of PeerGuardian or Protowall (see Bluetack (http://bluetack.co.uk/index.php) or Methlabs (http://methlabs.org/methlabs.htm)) as well. These programs help protect you from the RIAA and other snoops that will sue you if they catch you filesharing, and they are free to download. It's not 100% perfect, but it DOES improve the odds in your favour. PeerGuardian is easier to set up and use than Protowall, but it is no longer supported by its creators so you will need to get Blocklist Manager from Bluetack as well to update your blocklists. DO consider doing this, it could save you a lot of heartache and money in the long run.

that might give people a bit of a protection but does not protect them from the riaa

haxor, for some reason the link didn't want to direct me anywhere, though I know you wanted a broadband stats test, here is what I got from somewheres else.

Though my ISP is infamous for having speed swings, so duno wether it's anything to go by. <_<

Edit: Just got round to d/l'ing the software, thanks Mystikan!

But for ProtoWall, when I try to boot it up, it gives me an 'ProtoWall.sys is not loaded'

Oh and last question and I'm done, once I install them, is that end of story? I can keep everything as default and I'm set?...

Nope, just so I know, does everyone here use K-Lite? And if so, which version?

I'm all ears. B)

it ranges from klite 2.4.3 to 2.4.4, klr 2.5.0(.0.0.7) and k-lite2.6rc20b.

you might even find a few with klite2.10

irc/bittorrent/emule are much faster 99% of the time, not to mention they will have sources before kazaa

Nobody uses KL anymore.

I use Nicotine (SoulSeek) and MLdonkey (BitTorrent, Direct Connect, eDonkey2000, FastTrack, Gnutella1, Gnutella2, OpenNap, Overnet, SoulSeek). :)

133731
04-02-2004, 09:33 PM
Wow, never heard of many of those, no one tells me anything anymore.... <_<

And KL's pretty much old news now? How come you guys use so many P2P programs? Just curious.

Rivetted as always. :)

MUSLEMAN
04-02-2004, 10:55 PM
you should use more than one because you are not gonna find everything you want asap with one client

h1
04-03-2004, 06:53 AM
 I only use two, but they connect to nine networks between them.

Actually, I could dump Nicotine and still use SoulSeek... but MLdonkey blows for SS. :P

BTW, these are all Linux clients... so if you're on a Windows box you're fucked out of luck. :D

 I'm too lazy to explain how it works in detail, but here goes...

First, download a BT client. ABC and Azerus are the two best available, just Google them.

Second, you need torrent files to start your downloads. A good to get torrents from is SuprNova (http://www.suprnova.org).

That's it! :D
