well that's a clear... "who cares vote" if you ask me... just place the mouse and click... and let it go. I just made this poll for two reasons,, 1st it was asked, 2nd this is mentioned a lot in the question of board changes... so why not poll it for once...

Don't know much about the stars, but I would survive whatever
happened to them :D ;)

Up until I came along and posted here, all contributors to this topic have 5 stars and 1000+ posts,
and not one person says they care about them.

But please, tell me..

How did you 5 star guys feel when you made your first 1000th post and attained the final 2 stars?

Don't tell me it meant nothing whatsoever to you at the time.

Now, I've been a member of this forum for slghtly over 1 year, and surfed here as a guest for about 3 months before that.
Most of the time, I've resisted posting spam just for the sake of stars.

I've been looking forward to attaining my golden one thousandth post.
Seeing 5 stars sitting under my avater would be nice too.
It's been a long stretch with just the three I have now...

As of this little rant, I have made 906 posts.
All I ask is if stars and postcounts are to be removed, please wait until I've made another 94 posts before acting.

Then I promise I'll stop caring about them too, just like you senior guys have. :P

Always liked them and still do, I think some of us think they're just being givin away too easily these days, though I don't really care much how somebody gets them. The whole Lounge issue is alreay done and there is no going backwards I imagine...

Yes I would be bothered a bit.
Not that it means everything to me,but I think it's a nice extra.
I'm not trying to get my posts up with making useless posts but I'ld like to see my 3stars change to 5stars eventually...
Why?....I dunno  ...maybe because it's some kind of recognition fo being a regular, dedicated, member(something like that).

I was quite happy when I got my 5-stars it was nice, but I never felt that I was posting just to get there...(well maybe when I got to 996 I was desperate to post something but that's understandable!)

LOL, I don't care and voted get rid of them(again). It took me more then a year to get it I think, and I was one of the original and very regular posters.

It actually meant something to get it back then simply because the spam level was very low comparitively. This meant when you got it, you were usually being constructive when you did it. Now it seems as if 30% of the posts are :D and flames. Who needs it?

If everyone had your attitude about posting, then this would never be brought up and spam would be under control. As it is, F.C. is right. This has been discussed/argued about many times and the spammers/flamers always win out in the end.

Please can you explain my "attitude" to posting? I'm a little confused as to what you mean.

Also I'd like to point out that I didn't start this thread with the intention of personal attacks, I am genuinely interested in people's opinions.

i agree, i don't care about the stars, but the mods should be easily distinguishable so they can inflict authority.....with extreme predudice

Who cares? I may of done back when it meant something but lets be honest we are a community and I feel that the only use for stars/post rating/count is to distinguish between regulars and new guys.

Whatever. At least don't get rid of member # & join date.

LOL, and rightly so. I originally began to post in response to uNz[i] and was going to quote part of what he said. I changed halfway through and just pasted what I had written so as not to re-write the whole thing.

I was refering to trying to post without excessive spamming and not getting his 1000 posts for a year or more.

Sorry for the confusion

As it stands 82% of members who have posted either don't care or want to keep them

18% want to get rid of them.

Is this even an issue ?

Not really an issue, more of a question really. Hence the poll I suppose.

Sorry you picked me up wrong.

I didn't mean the question wasn't worth asking. More that given these figures there is little call for change, it isn't even close so it isn't an issue. However you only know that when people have expressed an opinion.

Sorry hangover starting to kick in... ;)

Wouldn't the figures suggest that if the post count was abolished then most people simply wouldn't care?

J'Pol
03-28-2004, 01:26 PM
As it stands, exactly half don't care.

32% want to keep things as they are.

18% want to change.

That would mean that keeping things as they are would be the most popular option, by a good distance.

Post won't count in the Lounge "areas".

btw I voted no

I'd like there to a be a way for members to "grade" each others posts, i.e. you can give them a score of 5 if you find it useful, or -5 if you find reading it was a waste of time.

Then, your overall "post-grade" could be displayed on your profile so that everyone could see how worthwhile other people think you are.

No bad idea that would start a lot of flameing around the board.

Wouldn't people then start spamming in the "serious" areas just to get their stars?

Or, more, likely we would get hundreds of "I agree" in each thread about films and games.

Remember there was a reason for lounge posts counting...

Well Witchcheese,

The board was moderated more when Paul and VB were here.

You violated board rules when spamming in ANY area. Now a guy like hypo would almost feel at home in the Lounge area now.

You haven't been here long, me either for that matter, but I noticed you and others came right around the time Lounge posts counted. I could be wrong though.

It might be that when Lounge posts counted, that's when it turned into a free for all.
