Both Protowall and PeerGuardian use the same blocklists from Bluetack (http://bluetack.co.uk/index.php), which you update with Blocklist Manager. The programs simply use the blocklist to determine which IPs to block, so both would block the same IPs. Protowall is more tricky to set up than PeerGuardian; I think PG is more user-friendly. I haven't noticed it using much of my CPU while running (max usage is 8% on my machine) although it does chew up a bit just at startup while it's loading the blocklist. Having tried both, I'm inclined to stay with PG for now.

As to anything else to use, if Sygate isn't doing the job, have a look under the Export menu in Blocklist Manager for supported IP blockers. There's about a dozen or so there; one of them should be right for you! :)

I use protowall, It works really great for me, It uses almost no resources at all, nothings perfect, nothing gives 100%, but protowall is definatley a top pick for me, go get it, set it up. You'll keep it.

I'ts not actually hard to install at all, you just have to manually install the driver, and there is a full colour no0bs guide for this HERE (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/pwhelp/) ;)
