now people take a good look at this and decide if keeping some shiity piece of software which dosent work, is more important than the members who come here.

No i must agree. The anti-spam does not do any use at all, it blocks inocent posts yet when someone posted 30 messages after each other the other night in the lounge it did no use at all. It is a waste of time and is only pissing people off.

If the anti spam is causing such trouble for people it could be put to a members only poll. I agree that it is a bit off to allow guests to access member's hard work without contributing but then it could be said that this forum is to help people and sometimes people may just want to find out something and have no intention of becoming a part of the forum. I guess there are 2 strings to this forum, an information service and a community. It is not easy to manage both but I think the members should have some say in the way their info is distributed.

Well I was replying in Azzz's thread but I got hit by anti-spam so I'll post here instead.

It's kind of sad really that things are falling apart at the moment and the admin just don't seem to care or are just incompetent.

If you don't want to do the job right then give it to someone who will, this community deserves better than the shoddy treatment it is receiving at the moment.

I vote that we put Rappy in charge of Admin. ;)

i dont PM mods i PM the admins Mods cant access the Control Panel to make an change to the anti-spam.

I PMed pol jack the ripper and 7th as to my concerns, I can understand the the anti spam but it seems to cause more trouble than helps but more pressing it concerns me we have more guest than members a majority of the time

I agree with all the points made. Multiple members have left because of this anti spam script and it isnt even doing its job anyway, so get rid of it. The strongest part of FST is its community and this feature is splitting it apart. I understand that you want to stop spam scripts but the current anti spam measures just arnt working.

I am disheartened by the lack of Admin replies to this issue, considering the numbers of PMs and complaints made.

Please take notice of this topic, we make them for a reason.

i can see some of the steps the admins have taken , actualy helping out with the speed of the forum , because b4 it was getting bogged down and was slow to respond

perhaps a happy medium could be reached, if both sides discused matters, with a neutral party to mod the discussion

compromise makes a good community, lets all think a while and see if this could be achieved

In the meantime the members are not posting in droves. This used to be such a fun board, now I come less and less often because it gets more boring everyday. It&#39;s a real shame to see it go down this way.

It appears that Admin just won&#39;t get involved in anything to do with members nowadays and that&#39;s a shame. Without members there won&#39;t be a board.

No it doesnt. It is supposed to stop members from using spam scripts to post multiple times in a row. However, it catches us out when posting normally (some VASTLY more than others) and spam scripts still work. :(

I think you will find you have changed from being members of a board, to users of a service.

Members make decisions together and the admin listen to what everyone wants. Users do that, they use the service that is being provided to them.

One can only assume by the lack of even a response (far less action) that the board administrators and mods really don&#39;t care whether you stop using their service or not.

One has to wonder why this is. Presumably they see the board as being something for a different group of people. Perhaps one with disposable income. If that is the case the board was only "acquired" as something to start from, rather than starting from scratch. If you look at the changes over the last few weeks, this seems apparent.

I for one will remain, as I am curious with regard to where they are going with this. I find the spam thing is not a problem. It only ever bothers me when I preview posts, so I don&#39;t do that any more.

First I just want to say something. I am the Main admin here now. In the last 3 weeks since I got here I have tried to do all i could to satisfy members. I have combined folders, reorganized things and have changed a lot of little things to the requests of members. I feel that I have worked hard to try to respond to every members concerns. I did not implement the spam feature. Marc (7th) did. I will try to see what i can do to deactivate it. Posting messages like the one below calling us idiots and the board a piece of shit is really not the way to go about getting things done.

I am working hard trying to get in contact with Marc and trying to straighten your concerns out. Please don&#39;t remove your guides, as this is just going against everything you guys are fighting for., a community of information. I have 100 different people suggesting 100 different things. Its not as easy as you think to get everything organized and satisfy all.

Changes I am trying to do:

Allow only memebrs to view verified hashes, and remove the antispam feature. Please don&#39;t PM me cursing me off or telling me I&#39;m an idiot, as I have just taken over the board in the last few weeks and have been very busy trying to get everything fixed, switched over, and improved. I am trying my best to satisfy you all, but don&#39;t have all the time in the world. Please be patient as I am working my ass off right now.

Thankyou for your reply rookie. We do understand that you are working hard, but we had requested and complained about this before to no avail. Could this perhaps be prioritized over some of the smaller tasks so we can get some of our members back?

I have only been here for a few weeks. This is the first complaint I have seen about the antispam feature since getting here. I did see a few other minor complaints in which members were both for and against it. I did not know if bothered people this much. I am trying to figure it out but I think I will need to get in contact with Marc as I am unsure how it is setup.

As for Azz saying he PMed me several times about this problem, he has not. I try to respond to everyones pm complaint.

no it is designed to stop spam scripts, but instead it stops people from making normal posts.

and even allows spam scripts to work&#33; :o

First of all, just to get things straight, I am neither against or in favor of anyone/anything. Truth be told, I don&#39;t even understand what this anti-spam feature does. AFAIK, the only "feature" of this type was the 20 seconds delay between post and post. If someone is kind enough to elucidate this problem, please do.

Second, we ALL know that 7th is gone for a while, so why are you guys pm&#39;ing him? You SHOULD pm Brian (or BOT), since he is the only one (in charge) that is able to make some changes here.

Third, even though we think this should be a democracy (it shouldn&#39;t be.... this is a forum not a country) because we are a community, this type of posts/replies almost tearing someone&#39;s head off makes me think of mobs. No matter what you do, the forum admin will do WHATEVER HE WANTS with the forum. It is up to us whether we ASK him NICELY to do some changes or just CONTRIBUTE (not demand&#33;) with out opinions.

Fourth, internet life isn&#39;t the only life people have. If he hasn&#39;t answered, just be patient, he&#39;s probably busy.

I myself thought the KLB was gonna be a mess with the admin change. I was, however, mistaken. Brian has taken care of things in a very good way. He has handled situations in the right way (although some might disagree), yet this is the hardest thing: you CAN&#39;T please everyone&#33;

Yep. I wonder if Marc wrote it into the post code himself or is something you can get somewhere else. If it&#39;s the latter, maybe we can look for it and how to remove (or fix) it.

edit - Whilst getting more anti-spam messages (now seem to be a flood of them :rolleyes: ), I checked Admin CP on a "default" forum..... there is nothing as the such, and see no "easy" way to adding more functions to the CP, just hard-coding the php files :frusty:

From his (7th E) original post, it looks like he wrote it, largely due to the fact he personally submitted it to the IPB developers. I just hope they can refine it before they add it to the next IPB software :fear2:

We are in the process of removing the anti-spam. The anti-spam option is not in the Admin CP, so we need to get ahold of Marc (7thElement). Instead of using the anti-spam script, we will simply deal with members using scripts to spam ourselves.

You guys have to be patient, Brian has e-mailed Marc this morning, and we are waiting for an answer.

It will run infinitely, but won&#39;t cause your browser to throw an infinite recursion exception because alert() doesn&#39;t put any stress on the computer.

The problem is while this anti-spam IS a good idea, the current incarnation doesn&#39;t work.

Anytime you are NOT spamming and it tells you that you are, then it is not identifying spam properly.

It reminds me of an improperly applied email blacklist.

Not necessarily. You don&#39;t need to change the 1 to an "absurdly high number". It would just be necessary to initialize i every time as (for example) -1, so that even though you increase the number in the cycle, it never reaches 1, hence a never-ending loop. For this to be done, you have to put i as -1 EVERY time, so you have to overwrite i&#39;s value with -1 :rolleyes:

EDIT - as for the image comment.... you have never heard of a .png image, have you? <_<

And you can&#39;t call it straight as an image... it needs to be an image file that is parsed for PHP first... change your server settings or use .htaccess. ;)

SpamScript is more of a nuisance than help. I agree it should be removed or fixed.
It has not caused me personally any trouble, but i can understand its a
pain for some ppl.

Apparently 7th. ("crept away like a thief into the night",a.k.a.
Eastern Vacation in the USA.) is on Vacation,
he has been contacted about this situation and im pretty sure
he&#39;ll be helping us to adjust the scripts as soon as he comes back to teh scene
from the vacation.
I dont know when he comes back, but i suppose after eastern sometime,
i dont know the length of his vacation.
I dont know anything about Scripts so im not talking about how to disable it.

Also, as I know of: BOT and Rookie has been looking on the situation but
as the setup on the board is heavily customised by 7th. , its best that we get
good instructions from 7th. how to go about the Script.
There&#39;s is a slight chance of fukup if fiddling with the board-software without
knowing Exactly how things work.
Bear in mind Rookie is still new to this board-software but
atleast im willing to give him all the time he needs to learn it.
I wont be pushing him to try to fix this if he&#39;s not confortable with the
software.

But it&#39;s hardly the end of the world if someone tries using a script, just put &#39;em on moderation and that&#39;ll stop them. Or close the thread they&#39;re spamming into.

It would soon be picked up on by members who could use the ever useful report button to report it. But to be honest I can&#39;t see a spate of spam script "attacks" on the board anyhow...
