you can tell if it's a fake if someone is sharing the file twice and the speed is super fast

but mp3shield is only for mp3s. There really is no way to protect youself from fakes. For movies, preview them after downloads some of it, for mp3s use mpshield. Other than that, you just gotta download them and try it out. The fattrack network is just full of fakes, there isnt anything you can really do.

Put kazaa on auto search for a dozen times. At the end of the search you only show interest in those with multiple sources. The more sources per file, the less of a fake it is. I have auto search set for 200 times.

Hi, once you've searched for a song, and you find theres loads of that song found, you will see that most of them say exactly the same thing for name, artist, album, a couple won't download those. Or download those which say track 9 lets say-they come from an album so won't be fakes. hope that makes sense

ehh not even slightly.

the best way to lessen the number of fakes is to be more choosy about the p2p client you use. emule works well for me, as does BT. kazaa is certainly at the bottom of the pile. If your ISP lets you then newsgroups have substantially less fakes and will allow you to max your connection on each download.

That's been proven wrong so many times.

Get rid of the fakes by simply choosing another P2P network. I've only gotten one fake with Clean Blubster.

Even so MP3 shield does not detect the corrupt files in the way that they skip alot when playing..... This is a very common problem that I find now days and 7 out of 10 mp3 ive been downloading are like this and all of them were 128kbps or over.

This is a mega flop ;)

It never was like this and its almost like a plage

I'm having the same problem. I downloaded 73 songs the other day, and I've only listened to 6 so far - and 3 of those would play normally for about three minutes, and then after that there was just kind of a skipping noise (even though my media player [winamp] showed that the track was, indeed, playing correctly, and not skipping. But the last 5 seconds or so at the end of the song played normally. This is so frustrating.

Edit: I downloaded and ran MP3 Shield (thanks for the suggestion!) and it found that 10 of my 73 files were fake. Wow. Disappointing. <_< Too bad for the RIAA I have a cable modem, and I'll just go back and find *real* versions of all those songs in less than 10 minutes. :D
