View Full Version : Collective Nouns

This week, I've been pondering some disturbing questions that have been raised by close examination of collective nouns.

Perhaps some of you can help me to find the answers.

A bevy of beauties
How many beauties are required to make a bevy?
What is the collective noun for a group of ugly girls?

A murder of crows
How many crows died to make it a murder, and whodunnit?

Flocks of birds and flocks of sheep.
This noun seems to infer that sheep were (or are) able to fly.
If so, what made them stop?

A clutch of eggs.
Don't eggs break if you clutch 'em?

A knot of toads.
Who would be cruel enough to tie 'em all together, and then have the gall to coin a collective noun which commemorates such a heinous act?

Well, I'd have no qualms with the toad issue. The little fuckers are everywhere down here, and cane toads are an absolute pest.

Ugly chicks? An assful of ugly chicks?
