worth a whole new post
anyway
i think blocking leechers aint as important as blocking riaa spies
and other crap like that

well if this guy has a dynamic ip then banning him from peerguardian would be useless but i see where you are coming from i hate users like that however u gotta watch that the person is not just using the privacy patch so it simply looks like he/she is not sharing and leeching

The person in question was trying to download the new james bond movie from me...

connected to ALOT of ports????? Thats odd?

Soo maybe worth a ban, hogging alot of ports to reserve themselves a slot, i mean comon

@ Acecool..its not a good idea to put up IP's and i suggest you try getting a life and putting up posts that are of interest. You really dont have a clue....

Acecool

Im sorry, I will not let assholes hog 40 + ports for a file when they arent sharing

doing so allows them to cut in line etc....

So nemo, you can lick the dildo thats on your shelf, seeing as its the only thing to keep you company at night

I'm not going to get into a flamming war with a n00b,who as i have already stated, really doesnt have a clue :)
You will find that people have put up IP's already b4 and the 'admins' here stated that they didnt want this done!! ...so use your obvious frustration and anger towards leeches in a more possitive manor and just let it go...its people like you who put up posts like this that makes me think that your probably a bigger leech then the person whos IP you put up :P :w00t:
If you had more of a clue then you would realise that its pointless putting an IP up as dial up peoples IP's will change everytime they connect to the net...so ask yourself this...was your post that you started a bit dumb....  :)

edit:Hmmm i see you have a forum...might have to check that out <_<

Nemo, the activities the above-poster described are ALMOST CERTAINLY hostile actions possible only with a modified Kazaa and/or special monitoring tools.

These AREN'T your eveyday leeches... they're quite likely the Net Cops we very much NEED to block!

Exactly

Download and open peer guardian, if you see 1 ip, on like a TON of differnet ports with TIME_WAIT and 1 port ESTABLISHED

if 1 gets disconnected the next one is already available and the other port goes back in line

And since I am sharing around 70 movies well its better to be safe

i find it hard to believe this happened so many times to one person, but then again as you said you do share loads of movies, hmmm id say it could be riaa....is it happening to specific ports?? or just random ones??, are they in order and connected one after the other?, or all connected at the same time???

My appologies acecool,i misunderstood what you were on about....i see now, seems very strange hope someone can shed some more light on this.

Nother one
81.7.114.237

Connected to 5 ports

They appear to be random

But the ports are grouped together

the one with about 60 connected was on 6xxxx

the one just above with 5 was in the 4000 range

for example
4114
4119

sometimes jumping by 100 etc

And its always James bond :-/

The guy was even sharing the SAME MOVIE he was downloading it again........................

So I think I am going to unshare JB dad

I mean a few users within 2 days connected to tons of ports trying to get the same movie????

Weird?

Also, get Peer Guardian and block those ips for a day or 2.

I have a feeling that once these leech-cops find your ip that they're VERY good at finding it again...

Acecool

I got a better firewall now heh...

But I unshared james bond, die another day and havent seen any of them again, YET

sooo...

I copied your suggessted IP's in my peerguardian and I couldn't access this forum. I think you somehow, put up the forum servers IP. ;)

I then took the IP's out and was able to get on the forum. Am I the only one this happened to?

Acecool
03-20-2003, 11:47 PM
With peer guardian if you ban an ip it means they cannot access you, you can still access it.

Switeck
03-21-2003, 04:19 AM
NO, Peer Guardian blocks connections TO and FROM those ips.

With peer guardian if you ban an ip it means they cannot access you, you can still access it.

once you block an ip number, you won't be able to access it nor the ip will be able to access you. this blocking works both ways. Once it blocked, you and the other side won't ever meet one another.

Recording Industry Association of America
They are fighting against music piracy on the P2P networks. They convince college networks that sharing hurts the network and they scare ISPs into blocking P2P.

But its the MPAA (motion pic association) that is looking for people sharing lots of movies, watching their shared files and alerting their ISPs.

Thats correct, it is how the TCP/IP protocol works.
All incomming connection (to you) will be on port 124 (unless you have specified otherwise) and the outgoing port (to them) will be a random number above 1024 if i remember correctly.

What you want is a program that automtically and temporarily blocks IP's that try to connect to many ports at once within a shot internval. The eDonley network has this ability .. it automatically bans user who requesed the same file too fast etc. Perhaps a tool such as the one i described could be made.

Anyway, to shed some light on this subject, more than likely what it is, is a user browsing your file list and grabing everythign that they see they like, in the meantime these files are being qeued up in Klite. Then when the user switches to the traffic tab, and Kazap or Speedup start .. WHAAM! you get hit with a request for X number of files all at once. This is a big proble, and i have done this a few times. It is no good for anyone as it will slow down both users.

As for the RIAA etc hammering you... don't think so highly of yourself (nothing personal).

Stop posting IPs!

You have told us your method, and if anyone wants to take your advice they can.

Posting IPs solves nothing, unless they are static. Just because you suspect an IP of hammering you, dosen't mean they will hammer everyone else. In most cases, people who start blocking all these IPs will have unintended outcomes, blocking "good" IPs and will be cutting themselves off from many other fair users. Just look at the result above when someone could't access this forum!

One way someone can 'hammer' your ip is to list all your files and try to download LOTS of them with their download max set to 50.

If they have nothing else going on and your connection queues their requests, they will RETRY your connection on EVERY queued file at least once every 5 minutes. This can be VERY bad on your connection...

Acecool
04-14-2003, 05:35 PM
That happened once

I have max uploads to 3 so everyone gets a decent 5 or so kbs down till i get my 10mbit box where I can go full out lol

I started kazaa lite, check transfer tab, 1 dl, 6 uploads

all same user, all different files

weird?

not only was he hogging everything, he wasnt getting decent speeds, holding up valid users from getting files etc

oh about the riaa thing

thats why peer guardian closed 4 connections from them yesterday within an hour period alone?
