i just did a scream print (alt+prtsc) and then pasted the result (from my webcam) into word (being the handy thing around at the time)

colour good, image good etc

then opened up photoshop and pasted the result into that and the colour is terrible. All washed out and no definition. how can i solve this?

as in the pasted copy in word (direct from the screen print) is perfect colour.

Then copying this into photoshop makes colours like pink go grey etc. washed out as in greyer colours and no definition as in looks kinda blurred but the original wasnt

just skip the Word thing completely.
It's not a graphincs program, it's prolly losing lots of colors by doing that.
Just Print Screen, then your image is on the clipboard.
Go to Photoshop, and make a new document, and just Ctrl+V there.

or, at least, that's how I do a screenshot with Fireworks.

enlarge the image (in word) then take another screenshot? :)
