Alright then. My Doom 3 keeps crashing while following that little spider drone right after you meet up with seargeant kelly. I've already tweaked the comp so that it does get decent fps while walking around and going in game. Anywhere from 24 during cutscenes to 48ish average and 63 at some spots. Tweaks I did were the ones at gamefaqs (same as the ones here just the performance one mighta had a little less and didn't have a custom ratio). Link to the tweaks (http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=12608&topic=15663590)

Anyway, my comps an Alienware Area51-M from a year ago. It's got a 2.66ghz p4, some 55 gig hard-drive, 512mb of ram, and an ati radeon 9000 mobility. The drivers for the mobility haven't been updated by alienware in awhile, and ATI doesn't distribute mobility drivers to begin with. Anyone got any help to try to either up my fps in more active spots (following the drone around does drop it to like 15) or hell, just make the game stop crashing. It also used to crash half the time I went to the menu or the pda, but defragging fixed that so far.

Holly shit, you cant play doom 3 in a 1 year old Alienware machine, thats shit dude, how much was it? $3000+ ????

Well the 9000 IS 128mb. And the Alienware was 2500 bucks and still costed only like 100 more then a similar dell laptop last summer, and it was stuck with a suckier vid card. Probably needs one helluva good reformatting, and the drivers for the vid card are probably 6 months old. It's not replaceable either. They only started that like last spring or something, so I'm stuck with this vid card. Anyway, I'm just pissed that I keep crashing all the damn time. Might work better if Alienware would release new drivers..

Edit: Looked around Alienware's support place and they have some help to stop doom from crashing, gonna try those out and see if they work (involves changing standards creen resolution outside of game and messing with the bios, trying to find new drivers, shit like that)

This deserves a new post. Alienware is working on drivers to fix doom 3's errors and have some beta ones out.

http://www.alienware.com/ftp_downloads/Lap...bility_8.05.zip (http://www.alienware.com/ftp_downloads/Laptop/5620/VGA/5620_ATI_Mobility_8.05.zip)

and

Are the beta drivers for alienware mobility 9000 (the top one) and 9600 (the bottom one).

The other possibility is to use the omega. Gonna try out the beta ones first.

They got the game to work. It stopped crashing. I did have some fps fluctuations though. Lowest was 23ish. Highest was 63. Average was around 48. Beta drivers worked pretty good. Decided to format anyway since the comp was running slow (defrag didn't help much either). Still yeah, the beta drivers work well. Gonna do some more playtesting with 'em after I finish reinstalling everything.

Alright, with doing my own tweaking I can keep pretty much 30 average, no fluctuations for the most part. There are some places where that instead goes to 60 or 20. This is with those beta drivers and me doing my own testing. I still wanna try to get 30 fps to be my lowest. So I'm gonna try a couple things. First, I'm seeing what happens when I install the omega drivers. See if they help or just crash the comp. I'll post back again, later.

Edit: Alright, with the basic performance file from in here (the one you have to exec when you start game) just modified a little. And with particles off, I have decent fps. 48 average. 60 on not os detailed spots. 30 in combat. 20 to 25 sometimes. But hte game is playable. Booyah! This game fucking rocks too! Just got to alpha labs.

After looking in the pinned topics and searchimg the forum, I've had no luck

if my game was crashing then maybe I could find something.

However I've had a little trouble beating the sarge. Is there a trick or do I just have to find the skill for him?

A bit weird, but hey, it works.
Anyway, can someone help me with the fps thing, i need to know my fps on doom 3, thanks for the help...

Use FRAPS (http://www.fraps.com) , it shows your FPS and you can take screenthots and record your gameplay with it.
