i thought about asking what graphics card he had, but he said he was going through "withdrawals"... so i thought he meant he was playing these games before, but now he can't. but those specs, jeez. you can't get HALO withdrawals if your system was never ran it in the first place.

yeah, sorry, the problem is not Direct3D or DirectX being properly installed or anything... it's that your computer just isn't up to snuff anymore for slick games like Halo. time to think about building a new PC. if you build it yourself with your own hands, you could prolly slap together a PC that plays most of the newest games for $500-$600. it's not that difficult... just read a couple of guides on how to find bargains on parts and how to assemble it. it wouldn't slay Doom 3 or anything, but it'd be good enough to run all that stuff you've been trying to play.

GOLDEN RULE: once it's out of the box, it's old

next time build urself a PC instead of buying, so much cheaper and more customization, did i mention cheaper? :01: how much u buy that crap for (sorry)? if it was more than 600 dollars at the time, u coula built the same rig AT THAT TIME for about 300-350, max 400.
