There are. You've got to go to User CP> Edit Options> Miscellaneous Option and select "enhanced interface". They'll appear each time you post, next to the text box, but there are only a few (lousy) ones right now.

Go to UserCp> Edit options> Messaging and notification, under "Default Thread Subscription Mode" choose "do not suscribe. ;)
