Ok I know there is a difference but what is the thing with Migrain tabs and normal pain killers?
I had pain so I took both, not knowing which is best, neither worked so I took a couple more, and still nothing.......is it possible they canceled each other out? or are they just crap?

Yeah but that's like reading the back of a frozen pizza box, it's never bloody right, depends on the oven, well this depends on the person :)

Btw, I'm not endorsing taking pills, always read the label :)

Over the counter migraine medications really aren't much different from regular painkillers. They're most likely a combination of ibuprofen, acetomenophen and aspirin. Possibly with a bit of caffeine in them. And they don't do squat for migraines. Acetomenophen is actually one of the worst things you can take for a migraine. The likelihood of them "cancelling each other out" is slim, since they are most likely the same thing in different quantities.

Prescription migraine medications aren't painkillers. There are all sorts of different types, but most of them are designed to regulate the blood vessels in the brain to allow proper blood flow. Most people take them in conjunction with a painkiller when suffering a migraine.

If you really are in pain, codein is the ticket... Prescription only though :(

I dont know if you get them where you are Joob Joob. But I take TRAMADOL for arthtritis. They are brilliant. I also know a young fellow who had terrible trouble with his back till he took these tablets. It made his life a lot easier*.

* Once he started taking the tablets his pain became bearable but more localized. It ended up they were treating him for back pain when in fact he had gall stones, thats life.:(

Jonno, I use "Arnica Gel" on my back.
It works te same way as Deep Heat, but smells nicer. ;)

It says if you apply after a fall or blow, it prevents bruising.
>Add sleazy comments here. :D

Also, for headaches, try "Tiger Balm", (Indian Balm) instead of pain killers.
They build up, affect your immune system, and don't work when you need them.
You can get the balm from most heath shops now.
It's fantastic stuff. :01:

@Nikki......Yeah I got that :) The 750's were prescription, work mate lemmie have a couple :)

750 mg of what exactly? Ibuprofen? Acetomenophen? If so, they're still just painkillers. Migraine medications AREN'T painkillers. Painkillers in higher dosages are often used in conjunction with migraine medicines, but painkillers themselves do absolutely nothing for migraines, just as migraine medications will do nothing to help with pain. Trust me. As someone who is on dilaudid (which is one of the strongest painkillers available) for pain due to illness, they don't do fuck all for migraines. Migraine medicines are things like immitrex, zomig, amerge... countless others, most of which I've been on. Some may have some pain relief in them, but they are not in themselves designed to relieve pain. Incidentally, the one I'm on now, topamax, isn't even for migraines, it's for epilepsy, but it works very well.

JONNO_CELEBS
10-07-2004, 12:00 AM
So why call em migrain tablets?
I dunno what they were, ibuprophane I thought, I could be wrong, that was an assumption

Jonno

NikkiD
10-07-2004, 12:12 AM
Because most general practitioners haven't the slightest idea of how to treat migraines, and prescribe painkillers. And drug companies cash in on the fact that most migraine sufferers will try anything to get rid of them.

I'm not Ad, but I have absorbed enough medication to know that mixing different drugs and ingreasing quantities isn't wise.
It may actually cause more harm than good.

Because most general practitioners haven't the slightest idea of how to treat migraines, and prescribe painkillers. And drug companies cash in on the fact that most migraine sufferers will try anything to get rid of them.
Amen sister!
But what's really a pain in the arse (aha humour!) is when your doctor refuses to prescribe anything more than ibuprofen when you're really in pain, just to avoid you getting addicted.
When I had migrains (thank the gods they're gtting rare) the bastard refused to prescribe me some codein (the only thing that soothed me) because it is an opiate drug.
