I have an 80 gig 5400rpm drive in my M6809 emachines notebook .
I love the computer but sometimes I am underwhelmed at how fast the computer is with a fast CPU (3200+ 64bit AMB). I blame the lack of jaw droping performance on the hard drive.

Having worked a long time setting up my computer with all the programs that I want, installed properly with virtual drives, or the right keys, etc. I don't want do that all over again.

A couple questions:

Is there a program that will let me mirror my entire drive, so I don't have to re-install any of my programs, and update all my settings?

What are my options above a 7200 rpm drive? Are any of them affordable? I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred dollars.

Thanks for any advice.

Norton Ghost for mirroring.

As for the slowness... Are you sure it's the hard drive that makes it feel slow?

Here is a 7200 RPM mobile hard drive with 8 MB cache: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1009919&CatId=1277

Be aware that your battery life will be shortened with a faster drive.

yeah i am sure it is the HD. It runs great except when loading programs, or playing games off the HD that load a lot of levels.

Are there any external options that would be faster than my 5200 rpm drive?

i used Acronis Migrate Easy to copy my old HDD to my new HDD.........

works perfectly cause it makes an EXACT copy of your HDD............

i would really recomend that over norton ghost (which is in my experience more of a hassle to work with, as it isnt really meant for this purpose)

Getting back on subject from dvd-burners to porn burners.Yes there are USB hard drives you can get.7200 and 10,000 rpm with 8MB cache is what you should find, let alone look for.The only thing about a 10k rpm drive is the size is fairly set,in terms of i have only seen a 36 or 74 GB drive. Not 20,40,60,80,120 GB in size like the 72 or 54 rpm drives. Its lovely how things get off tracj over "Norton" the ass of all virus software.Tell then adieu
