Since there isn't much posting going on anymore, im not really learning anything about newer computer parts!

So just for refrence what are all the best 64bit motherboards that are out now? Which chipset is the best? etc. (sorta like for 32bit amd we had the asus a7n8x, the gigabyte 7n400, and the abit nf7).

Which socket?

I think the DFI Lanparty is a very good socket 754 board and the MSI is highly rated for socket 939.

and which model MSI and DFI lanparty boards?uhhh...i THINK the 939 socket is for the AMD 64
if so, thats good news, cuz i can get an MSI with the 939 fairly cheap :D
(but i HAVE an MSI atm [socket A] and not too sure i like it...)
hopefully they really stepped it up on the 939 mobos....

The 939 and 754 are both for A64's, but the 939 is the newer socket I am pretty sure.

But, I still dont know what chipset is the best. There is nForce3 and the Via chipset, but Idk which one is better really.

Idk, I think I would go with the nForce3 just cuz I love the nForce2 :D

I would tend to agree but I have seen that one brand doesn't always have the better product. I still think it's too early to decide at this point. I'll keep watching as things develop.

i got a VIA chipset on my current mobo, not bad for an OOOOOLD fkr :P
they seem to do pretty well with driver updates and such too
but i will have to read through VB1234's link to tom's before i commit to one or another
(i didnt get past the "object of desire" on page two, i shot my wad and had to clean up)

Running an MSI K8N neo platinum socket 754 at the mo, has nForce 3 on board with a 250Gb Lan, so far no hassles. Very nice board except for being a littler picky about the RAM it likes.

Socket 939 is definitely the choice if you want ultimate performance - double the memory bandwidth of socket 745 and 25% more HyperTransport bandwidth - all controlled directly by the CPU so the chipset is not as important as long as it is capable of supporting the speeds.

I looked at the boards on the link above, I can't say I was too impressed by the layout of the MSI board - heat from the cpu will certainly make sure the memory doesn't get cold.

I like the idea of Nvidia's single chip design - no need for a chip interconnect so everything should run slightly faster. However, it is a top end chip so you will pay top end prices.
