View Full Version : I have this really shitty mustek scanner..

it connects through com port 1.

i installed the drivers i found on the site but xp isnt recognizing it i think..

its not under printers or scanners.

i think its because i dont have software installed.

can comeone recomend me some scaner software i can use?

the scanner should come with scanning software. im sure. have u tried adding hardware? since it may not be plug and play?

If it is like most of the crappy mustek scanners you probably won't get it working under any NT based OS. My brother ended up dumping his after months of trying to find drivers that worked.

It is a serial scanner they do not work under XP you need USB scanner!!

Sorry!Actually, there's absolutely no reason why a serial scanner shouldn't work under XP. In fact it should work better than under previous versions of Windows, the serial port handling under NT based systems is much better than ever before as long as you let the system handle the port.

But in practice the Mustek drivers try to handle the port themselves, so you are right - they just do not work.

my packard bell branded mustek worked fine under xp, its usb, but i had alot of trouble under windows 2000 if i remeber right.

That's a case in point. The later models work fine with the later OS, but they don't make their drivers backward compatible with older OS's and they don't write drivers for their older hardware for the newer OS's.

the scanner is pretty old, i dont think they are actually windows xp drivers, they are compatabile drivers. it was tempramental on my old laptop which was also running xp.

You could always write your own drivers for the device :p
