Check out the 16X LG GSA-4160B.

It works with all DVD formats including writing Dual Layer and writing DVD RAM.

what would be the best dvd burner to get if i mostly want to use it to store 4.8 gbs of data files? or is all media the same?

I wasn't sure, because they are actually talking about making oversize DVDs (4.85GB) so I thought I'd just confirm that.

Oversize CDs was one of the original copy-protection systems until 80 minute disks became available. It would not surprise me if they tried the same thing with DVDs, but this should beat that.
