This may sound old fashioned .... but as a rule it is best to buy cheap and sell high if you want to make a profit.

So why would you buy Euros when they are at an all time high against the dollar? If you have definite knowledge that the dollar is going to sink a lot further then by all means go ahead - but I suspect you're about 9 months too late to speculate on this particular currency swop.

I've made about 40% on my euros since 2000.

Its like working the stock market, nobody knows. Its gambling really, nothing else.

yeah but the profit will be minimal if at all, as travel agents etc buy back at a different price they sell at. it would be a good idea if you plan to go to america in say the next 3 years to invest now, but then who is to say the exchange rate wont go lower?

i doubt you would, and unless you know what you're doing I wouldn't advise it. It seems like you would want to put your euros into dollars, but the factors that cause the dollar to devalue show no signs of decreasing. I don't know how our economy is still afloat. Not to bet against my own country, and I defenitely hope I'm wrong so I can go to college, but I think the euro will keep being worth more and more until bush is either forced to fix the economy or he has to resign, preferably the later. Finally, unless you have some connection in the bank or do it for a living, currency trading is kind of pointless seeing as banks sell and buy at inflated and deflated prices in order to make money. Whatever you do, don't change your money at an airport or a place where tourists frequent. Hope that helps.

why?

Mad Cat
12-29-2004, 09:37 AM
why?

Tourist exhange rates are the worst you can get. They way inflate the prices because they know the tourists will pay it.

You want a bank, if you have a friend that owns a business you might be able to get a business rate.
