Listening to police scanner and althought there's lots of bad things happening there's 1 family a few miles from me who for some reason have had a German shepheard dog wander into the house an hour ago and is sitting in the kitchen
They can't get near it, I shit you not this is hysterical

Scary for the family but they will laugh about it in a week :01:

how do you listen to police broadcasts?
I have one of those short wave wind up radios... would that pick them up?

Depends whether or not you have the right scanner and if you know the correct frequency. Police use dual mode so unless you are a bit clever or have 2 radio's you can only pick up 1 way, but for a small area and HQ to say "Officers are thin on the ground" meaning there's too many arseholes to just enjoy themselfs, it's not much fun to hear, just gives you a different view :)

What about the Shepard?

Did they bring a German speaking interpreter in to attempt to "talk it down"?

@Dave...... I seriously doubt that as a walky talky uses the wrong crystal sets, years ago you could pick it up on am radio on a very atmospheric day :)

@15..... Sorry dude, I did'nt see this and did'nt think of that, quite a bit went on :(

Ah I see, you picked up co channel interference, 99% of toy walky talkies work on 27megs (same as toy radio control cars etc), but if the transmission is close enough it's possible it could have interfered, thats what used to happen on am radio.

You can get a scanner for about £20 that will pick it up, but like I said, they 2 way, 2 different channels, 1 for base, 1 for mobile.
Unless you have 2 scanners or a dual channel set (upwards of £200) you have to channel hop at lightening speed
btw, the above I do have :D Well it's not mine but it's in the house :shifty:

you've made me question myself now :(

how come ten years ago we had cheap ones that pick stuff up. now i have some that go about a mile and a half i cant pick anything out of the white noise

Because it's solid state now, not crystals, plus they are set to frequencies no longer used by anything but them, vhf 27-50megs :)

It's the same pricipal as when you used to copy video's from the rent shop, then they started encoding them so you had to by a booster decoder for £70 :frusty:

Technology works against us as well as for us.

ive copied vhs for years, stop talking shite please.

Please SD, many titles from rent shops for the past 8-10 years have been coded so when you copy it's shit, I like perfect copies.
You go hire a new movie on vhs and copy it without a decoder, see what you get.
Not all but many are, dunno so much now cos I don't bother but a few years ago nearly all new movies were coded.

That's a fact so please don't tell me I'm talking shit. :)
