.avi to MPEG!

Hi,

I use TMPGEnc to convert .avi video files to MPEG format, but it takes around 4 hrs to convert a 1:30 hr movie.

I'm wondering if there are any other software(s) available that can convert the video file to MPEG faster then what TMPGEnc takes?

Here are my computer specs:
Windows XP Home
AMD Athlon XP2600+
2.01 GHz
768MB or RAM
