... From tah Moderation

Can I just add at this point that if anyone had PM'd me instead of whining about the pic I posted, I would have taken it down, no problems.

Instead, people started whining that their eyes couldn't take it, and instead of not clicking on the thread and staring at it for 5 mins (daily) they decided to continually b*tch about banning me from the forums.

I'm sorry but let me get this straight...

I have noted more threads with "offensive" pics to myself but rather than scream blue murder, I decided not to go back into said threads.

Why?

Because I had a choice. No one had a gun to my head, and told me to view it.

At the end of the day, we live in a cruel world, and pics like what I posted do and will continue to show up on the web. If those who decided to "Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" weren't so wrapped up in their ideal world where everyone dances and sings in Wonderful-Land then they have a shock when they open their eyes in the real world.

One of the main instigators in my moderation will be ignored from now on. I helped cpt_azad in another thread around the same time this was going on, and he didn't have the decency to PM me and say something like "Hey man, you know that pic you posted, well... it kinda offends me. Can you take it down please?". I would have done this!

Thanks for all those who requested a banning. It won't be forgotten :)

Damn you were moderated?

I feel bad not because I was offended 'cause I wasn't, but because when I first saw the dry-snitching, I should have pm'ed you to take it down.

I agree but it also shows what bitches people are.

You actually know who has something against you when stuff like that happens.

Example. Two "internet buddies" wouldn't snitch on each other or even someone they were cool with.

Well, I didn't PM anyone or request anything. I did NOT expect or want to see such a graphic picture.

Poor judgement, and a temporary suspension was the right choice.

Give your posts a little thought.

All I'm saying is that if I was PM'd then I would have taken it down.

In any case, I'm blaming myself. All these years getting to know people and what not has obviously led to nothing. I was assuming the majority of people on this forum, especially those that posted in said thread, were long time members who had seen almost everything the Internet has to offer.

I'm just thankful that the news channels these guys get don't show "the full picture". God forbid they don't like what they see

All I'm saying is that you if you needed a PM, then you need to work on your judgement.

What really amuses me is that we get all freaked about sex and nudity. I'd rather people post donkey sex than grave images of death.

Had you posted a detailed picture of sodomy, you would have known full well that forum rules had been broken. Why is that not so obvious in this case?

The truth is that I had no idea that you posted that picture, but when I saw your thread, I knew exactly what picture you were talking about and I have been away for a while.

The thread was about regarding the Helicopter crash which, might I add at this point gave DIRECT LINKS to video's showing US SOLDIERS being executed.

I think people started forgetting this very point. A video is better than a picture?

The picture was also relevant to the thread as it showed a dead Iraqi. I am still wondering where "donkey sex" comes into anything relating to this, but each to their own I guess :)

"Donkey sex" was a comment that relates to the rule that on this forum you can only show tits, not vagina. "Donkey sex" is way beyond the rules of what people can post here.

Then again, people think thay can post pictures of splattered brains.

If you can only post tits here, why to you think that splattered human brains is appropriate. That is a gross lack of judgement.

A link is fine, as long as people know what they are getting into.

I'm not sure what or where the picture in question was. I didn't see it, so on that point I'm not judging.

What I can say is that I've seen links to videos showing executions, suicides, posts containing pictures of mutilations, posts with links to various graphic sites, and more, when the links/pictures have been removed with a warning. I've removed them myself in the past. I've seen links to graphic videos left alone and nothing done about them, despite complaint. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't often see someone moderated for this, unless it's been done repeatedly, especially when it's a long standing member who's never even been moderated before.

I'd have to agree that a PM would have served better in this case.

What does it matter whether a link needs d/l or not? The video clips were embedded in a webpage so they played as soon as you click on them.

I've already said I made an error posting the pic but it's like I'm being used as a scape goat here.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say - I'm pretty sure Samurai isn't a repeat offender.

Picture, link, doesn't matter - graphic is graphic, and both are generally treated the same way from a mod standpoint - removed. PM to poster if it's a first offense, moderation if it isn't.

I'm not saying it should have been left up, or that good judgement was used in posting it. I was commenting that moderation might have been a bit harsh for a first time offense.

Why is it so suprising that action was taken against you Samurai?

You posted a picture of a guy whose brains had been blown out, that's disturbing, its against rule 7. If you had posted a link with a warning above it, that'd would have been fine. If you had posted the picture in a spoiler tag, with a warning above it, that would have been fine. But no, that damn picture was right there, as I was scrolling down. What did you expect? You know better.

Now the question is, was moderation too harsh? I don't know, maybe. Hell, at some of the forum's I've been to, if you so much as think about breaking a rule, you get banned. You knew that posting that picture was unacceptable, yet you still did it the way you did.

So posting direct links to video clips of executions is ok?

Check. I'm with ya now.

Why stop there? I'm sure if I look hard enough I'll come across some child porn that others can scrutinize over.

At the end of the day I was singled out over this episode and was put on moderation because of it. What is deemed unfit in your eyes is deemed ok in others. I believe you went too far the other day, and didn't even give me the courtesy of sending me a PM. Perhaps seeing 2 video clips in the same thread page showing executions somehow made me think that the pic wouldn't have been so bad, but no. I was punished for it where the video clips were ignored.

As for other forums policies, that is a different story. It was posted in here, and not anywhere else. I too also frequent other forums and they wouldn't think twice about the pic then they would about the videos (which I'm almost positive would have been removed).

Was the moderation too harsh? You're damned right it was

NikkiD

There's no distinction between linking or direct posting in the rules. The whole point of the rule is to protect younger members from seeing what may be too disturbing. Doesn't matter if it's a link or a direct post, they're going to click on a link anyway.

The rule in question:

7. Posting pictures or links to pictures which contain graphic images of a disturbing or offensive nature will also be deleted without notice.

The links to the videos were left alone, at least until the point that Samurai posted his pic - I don't know, haven't looked to see if they're still there - and I've seen many occasions where things of this nature have been left alone. I've also seen many occasions where links to such caused as much of a stir as pics embedded in posts. I've personally questioned why such links were left alone and been told it's because it's WNE (or at least was at the time).

I thought the picture was revolting and did not appreciate it being just there on the page.

The bottom line is that you should have posted a link, with a severe harshity warning.

However if your warning level was low (I have no way of knowing) then I think a moderation was probably too much. The picture was offensive, just how offensive is a subjective matter.

Like I said tho' I don't know if this was taken in isolation, for all I know your level could be so high that any incident would lead to a moderation.

I don't understand the big fuss about a picture that (arguably) needed to be removed. Why moderate someone who has consistanly been a helpful contributor to this board for some time. I for one found the picture gross but not disturbing, again that's just me and I had already seen it in an email. Samurai has already admitted that a better way to post that pic would have been with a link. Done. Lesson learned. Let's move on.

Now let's look at the punishment, does it fit the crime? Of course not. Why should someone in good board standing, who posts an picture that some find offensive, be put on moderation?? I've seen many a pic in The Sexy Lady thread that I'm sure many felt grossed out by (800 lb. women spreading their legs, etc.). What about the people who post direct links to warez an the like? Those are just removed with a comment from the mod stating such action has been taken. Are they put on moderation? No. The punishment simply doesn't fit the crime or the "criminal".

I usually stay out of these discussions and just read them, but I'm standing next to Samurai with arms folded on this one. :snooty:

I'm wondering if it mightn't be better all round to pickett outside of IKE's house.

I couldn't give a shit. Really.

If you go on a hunger strike you wont be able to give a shit anyway.

Bujub was placed on moderation for posting a link to a website with similar shock pictures for two weeks. Samuel got off lightly

I agree. I remember a member once posted graphic images of road accidents. He was banned immediately. Cant remember his name. Maybe he had 'previous convictions' or warnings though.

@Samurai, do you have any other accounts and if so do any of them have warnings? I was just wondering if it was an accumulation thingy.

VB isn't like IBP. There is no easy warning system, members don't have a warning level under their name. So there is no easy way to tell if a member has been warned in the past. I would have to look through certain threads in the Team Chat. I don't know if Samurai has had any warnings in the past.

Whats done is done. If Samurai wants to discuss it, he will PM me. He also knows that this thread breaks rule number 12, but he posted it anyway. I'm not going to argue over it in here, feel free to PM me Samurai.

He should have brought it up as a hypothetical case. That way rule 12 would not have applied. :)

Actually it doesn't break rules.

It was mainly aimed at the members not the mods. I feel the same way.

I don't really blame the mods. It was a little harsh but.....

Heh, what a bunch of complete pricks seem to be running this FST, eh?

From what I've read here (and I haven't seen the image/thread under scrutiny) it would appear that a moderator saw fit to leave the image up. Has this moderator been moderated for 'gross lack of judgement', hobbes? The dozey fucker should have removed it before it caused too much offense and then PMed a warning to Samurai.

This apparently isn't the first time that moderation has been meted out where completely inappropriate.
You lot really haven't got a fucking clue when it comes to man-management, have you?

Samurai is highly regarded by many members that have witnessed or received his assistance, guidance and overall contribution to many forums at FST; do you really want to drive him and other likeminded people away from FST, in favour of the post-whores? If so, then let us know and we'll all fuck off over to LivingWithStyle while you delete all but the Lounge over here.

Moderators: GET A FUCKING GRIP.
Samurai: You may feel more welcome here, mate. (http://forums.livingwithstyle.com/)

No Sir. I only signed up with this account almost 2 years ago now and generally haven't felt the need to make another. I'm not into the spamming nonsense that plagues this forum and I didn't see myself getting moderated sometime in the future. There is no accumulation thing as I haven't been warned / moderated before :)

At the end of the day, the post was up for 4 days before it was taken down and I was put on moderation. I know for a fact it was visited by mods other than Rip The Jacker without anything being said either in the thread, or via PM.

I wasn't feeling well for 24 hours so wasn't on much on the day it was closed but when I returned and found I couldn't post or anything, it was then I noticed a PM from RTJ saying that I was on moderation.

Busyman & Skizo - Thanks for your words guys. I was hoping I wasn't alone on this one. I'm glad others have found this situation ridiculous. Busyman - you might need to clear your PM's buddy I tried to PM you but I think your inbox is full

Hey Chewie, thanks alot. I believe you have hit the nail on the head with that post.

do you really want to drive him and other likeminded people away from FST, in favour of the post-whores?

This was actually something I brought up previously with RTJ, as he/she was trying to educate me in why I was put on moderation. Here is a snippet of a PM I sent...

It's pick and choose with you guys and I'm being singled out all because I don't spam the lounge with needless shit like xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to make myself "known". This forum is beginning to turn into a bully's playground where anyone who spams in the lounge with 100 posts a day can say or do whatever they want.

Thanks alot.

You have just proved me right :(

As stated previously, if I was PM'd I would have done something about it. End of story. Whether I "knew" or not whether it is wrong is not in question, we've covered that. The pic was posted after 2 videos of executions were posted already.

Chewie - I'm gonna take a look over to LWS in a min, thanks for the link ;)

You know, it's kind of funny (and sad) how some people take this so seriously.

You were put on moderation for 2 days, it's not like you were thrown in jail for 2 days.
I mean, really... this is the internet. Samurai if you want to discuss it, PM me. Decisions made by the mods are not up for public discussion.

Some people take the internet way to seriously...
