What do you think is the top 10 events in the History of the United States? Start from 1607. also give a small explaination of why you chose them.

After that who do you think are the top 5 people of the history of the United States? Explain this also.

1. independence - us becomes independant. that's huge obvously.
2. civil war - us was on the road to splitting apart, but civil war stopped south from leaving.
3. world war 2 - the A bomb invented during or after this (can't remember) and that broguht the us into power, oon to become the world super power.

i can't really thing of any reasons why other events are important so i'll just leave them out.

Don't forget about emacipation, two world wars, Pearl Harbor, transcontinental railroad, war of 1812, reconstruction was just as influential as the civil war, stock market crash, great depression, cold war. There are sooo many important events.

Moon landing maybe too?

I'm too tired for explanations. Too much typing. If you know your history, these won't need explanations.

These aren't in any order...

1. The Great Depression - Millions out of work, but changed due to the War
2. World War 2 - Good vs Evil
3. Pearl Harbor - Attacked by Empire Of Japan. Brought them into the War.
4. Civil War - Many lives lost, but united the people eventually.
5. Slavery Abolished - See "iamtheoneandonlyone"'s post. Also KKK is something to research.
6. Cuban Missile Crisis - Cold War at it's peak.
7. Moon Landing - Tremendous achievment
8. Independance - We got beaten up  - Good friends now though
9. 9/11 - Worst terrorist attack in history.
10. Vietnam - I think you all know about this one... Also look into how people treated the GI's when they returned :(

Can't think of any more right now... Gulf War perhaps, Bill Clinton's "I did not have sexual relations" speech is an event itself lol - good luck ;)

I think you should mix some social history in with the more obvious things.

Role of Slavery in kick starting the US economy
Wounded Knee
Rise of industrialisation in the North due to Civil War
Prohibition/birth of The Mob
Dust bowl
Repeal of the Jim Crow laws
Elvis Presley 1950s boom years - first teen disposable income era
Romanticisation of the "Wild West"
Hollywood
Wall Street Crash
Moon Landing

People

Edison
WC Fields
Jefferson (warts and all)
Geronimo
Jane Fonda (controversy always makes a history paper a little more readable :) )
