Following an investigation, ESRB slaps dreaded 18-and-over rating on controversy-wracked bestseller; Take-Two lowers guidance, still blames "unauthorized third party modification."

Today, Take-Two Interactive announced that as the result of an investigation by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will now bear an AO for Adults Only rating. Previously, the game was rated M for Mature.

After video of the mod was widely circulated, such figures as ardent anti-game activist Jack Thompson and U.S. Senator Hilary Clinton blasted the game. Clinton went as far as to publicly equate violent games with cigarettes and alcohol as a hazard to America's youth. In turn, political heat caused the ESRB to launch the aforementioned investigation, which looked into whether or not the mod was included in the original game or was made by a third party.

The game is (or was...) rated 18, it's notoriously known as a violent and mature-themed game, and yet fuckin idiots still blame Rockstar for shit the parents should have considered beforehand. Parents should take full responsibility for the shit their kids buy.

That's stupid. It's not like Rockstar made the Hot Coffee mod, it isn't their fault. The user has to intentionally download and install the 3rd party mod. It isn't something Rockstar approved, and it doesn't come with the game itself.

sadly though, the hot coffee code is in the original game. it's in the ps2 and xbox versions as well, but u don't see it. gamespot proved that the code is in all the versions when they used a cheat code on the ps2 to reveal the sex minigame, proving no 3rd party involvement.

Well, apart from Rip you can all uninstall it then. Before it warps your tiny little minds.

The game should have always been adult only ffs, and any parent who buys it for their child should be shot. By me. In a drive-by. With my homies.

The game has had no effect on me.

I think its stupid. Games with customization, (like CS with the sprays), have always had nudity. I think a lot of controversy like this will follow with other games, just because some people have a lot of time on their hands and piss and moan about anything and everything. Plus, CJ has his clothes on.

the game is a fun exaggeration of a life that most of us don't have or see a lot. how many people do u know get from a small town bum to owning millions of $$ and owning stores and casinos and rampaging through Area 69 (51) and stealing stuff? doesn't happen very often.

wired published an article regarding a surprising increase in the iq of teenagers and young adults of the late 20th and early 21st century. expert professors of many universities comment that games such as gta and myst enhance our brain's ability to solve puzzles in a visual world.

It's about fucking time.

Any store selling it to an underage person should at the very least not be able to sell M OR AO games.

Just a bunch of BS! There are games out there that have worse content then GTA:SA but since the game is more popular and in the spot light they just let the others slide by! IMO even with the mod it does not warrent an AO rating. If you read the discreption for a MA game they are allowed to have brief nudity and not only that it was locked until some dumbass brought it to light... Also my question is since when did brief nudity and brief sexual act become worse then drugs or blasting a cop in the head? Thats why todays youth is so fucked up when there brought up to believe sex is the worst of all evil!

It didn't take long for the effects of the rating to be felt. Late Wednesday, Target, and Best Buy issued press releases they were pulling all versions of San Andreas from shelve.

Unconfirmed reports had GameStop following suit, and Wal-Mart told CNN/Money that it had issued orders to all stores to stop selling the game. "We do not sell games that are rated AO," Wal-Mart spokesperson Karen Burk told the site.

In other news, the Soccer Moms of America Association has a party...

btw anyone who can download this heinous mod also must have the internet. So little Johnny can corrupt himself in far more perverted ways with real porn over the pixel porn contained in this game...

Anyhow, they should do what they do here with alcohol. If I serve an under 18 with alcohol I risk a big fine and possible jail time. If I supply an adult who I believe is going to supply alcohol to an under 18 I risk a big fine as does the adult. Hard to police I guess, but we could at least fine any whiny twat that starts complaining that an adult game warped their poor little Johnny's mind.

"Really, bitch? And who bought him the game? Take her away boys."

Edit: This is great publicity for the game. :01:

One can only hope, if lots of you kids feel this way, and you think it's this wrong, that you'll remember this when the time comes for you to vote, so that sensationalist politicians like those who are screaming about this won't get your votes.

Lol yea why should he, i mean it was coming for Rockstars game to finally get a Adult only game. I mean seriously a game with prostitutes, gangs, killing... how should that not be a A-rating game. But who cares its not like its gonna stop anyone. If kids can play M-rating game, i dont see how hard its going to be to play an A-rating game. I mean i dont see how it can stop any of you with all the sources we have :shifty: .

roflmfao i think i just made an investment. I got a factory sealed san andreas. you search it up on ebay its going for over 70$+ cause of its rarity to find the original M for mature San Andreas. I'm gonna make big bucks :naughty: . Ka-ching

I tell ya what's really weird....

I bought San Andreas when it came out and never opened or played it.

It sounds like I should sell it on eBay and buy the Xbox version. As a matter of fact, the Xbox version is being sold for $35 online.

I never sold anything on eBay before. I guess I better figure it out. :(

I was pissed that I had the inferior PS2 version still sealed and the better Xbox version came out. :frusty:

So it's ok for a 10 y/o to watch Scarface?

18+ is correct in my mind for imo one of the best game series ever, adults only.

Kids copy, does'nt have to be the actions from the game, but maybe the language? drug scenes? etc etc, I would'nt let my 12y/o nephew play it, nor will my sister.

right about what? as far as i see it's a matter of oppinion.

all i know is... so far research has proven violent games to reduce stress, and it's never ever had a proven link to an actual act of violence.

i'd let any kid play any game over the age of say... 14? they already know what sex is and how to swear, a video game will not shock them.

so even your oppinion seems to be wrong
