yea, you don't need a os to have a second HD
awsome! so i stick it in, and then format by rite click and format?
and how would the ide cable thing work if the slave is above the master? i'm confused. should i just turn the cable upside down? hmm... that might work. is that wat i have to do? i used to have 3 hds in 1 comp, but that was a very long time ago, and i havn't built many comps since then, so i'm forgetting a lot of stuff
Thanks for the link muchspl2 :P

OMG! THANKS A LOT DUDE. THIS IS GREAT FOR MY INTERNET SPEECH NOOBINESS. LOL
Is your rack already installed? If not, you connect it to the spare plug on your ide cable, and plug the power in. Don't worry about which plug you use on the cable, it will work either way. Set your 30mb HDD to "slave", Windows will find it. To format, you log on to another drive, (c, for instance) then right click on the 30 and choose format.
AFAIK? As far as I know, it stands for something!
:)
but how will my ide cable reach that far up? if i have to turn the cable up side down, it won't plug in... so do i have to plug the ide connector that says master into the rack, and slave connector into my fixed, which is master? i'm so confused. cuz the cable won't twist and have the middle one reach higher to the 5.25' bays while the top connector is all the way at the bottomQuote:

another question. i have 4 5.25' bays. 3 are taken up by a cdrw, dvd rom, and temp display thingy. so if i stick the hd in between all that, will it get hot? my rack does have a fan, but will it still get hot? i don't want it to get hot.
oh, yea, also, how does my speedfan program tell the temp of my hd anway? cuz i don't think there are any temp sensors on hds. are there?
DTemp freeware for HDD temps.
yea, i have a software, but where do the sensor thing go? i didn't know hds had temp sensorsQuote:

anyway, how would i work the ide cables? should i plug the master connector to the rack, and slave connector to the fixed (master)? or how should i do it?
