Why is everyone being so nasty? He's asking valid questions. Him being able to do something cool doesn't diminish you in any way.

1. There really hasn't been anything cool about being able to solve a Rubik's cube since 1985.
2. There's barely anything noteworthy about the extended digits of pi since the invent of the PC.
3. This is The Lounge, not Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks".
His "talents" are only slightly above "I can smash a beer can on my forehead", or "drive on the freeway with my eyes closed".
1. Tough crowd.
2. Lame ass "talents".
I invite him to return when he becomes interesting.

I said I would be impressed and didn't get a reply.
The nasty people did.
Being nasty is cool and it makes you popular on the internets.

My reply was only mildly nasty, but based on a genuine amazement that someone would not research an abbreviation, particularly after 2 separate people concurred with Skiz assessment, to which I received the rather facile reply that they are not up on contemporary internet terminology. The fact that forums and the general layout and abbreviations have been with us since FidoNet and the beginnings of the internet sort of astounds me in it's ignorance.
The nasty part was saying the essay was boring as fuck, maybe I could have couched it in less flagrant language, but the basic fact is it was boring as fuck, and being nice about how dull it was was really doing said poster a disservice.
Really nasty would have involved various aspersions about the posters lineage, sexual orientation, physical prowess and general ability to swim unaided in the gene pool.

How is what amounts to "I saw a child do two things at once on Ellen (which I don't watch), but I can do three things at once, am I not special?" a valid question?
I mean, if mary did the same thing I'd just laugh, which is about the same thing I always do when he goes on about being clevar. If mary2 did it, I might fall asleep.
Owait, the child does three things at once as well.

Re: Does This Ability Require Normal or Above Average Intelligence?
I was doing a spot of modulating the other day and noticed in an old thread that Mary2 is religious.
It was just an inference but unmistakable. I arched one eyebrow and went about my business.

The above post is about transparency.

Re: Does This Ability Require Normal or Above Average Intelligence?
Well I think there's small minded petty jealousy at work here. I think being able to say Pi or whatever and do a Rubik's cube puzzle and that other thing he just said he can do all at once is pretty impressive. It's not useful, but then neither are you lot for the most part.

Only if it's witty. If you're nasty just because you're scared someone might think they're cleverer than you and you can't prove they're not, you're just a macho dick.

I'm usually in the black, sometimes in the purple, my best work is done when sepia comes into play and makes me wonder what would happen if I ever ventured into white territory.
Pretty sure I've never tried mauve but I used to be in the pink a lot. Recently, though, I've come to realise that I'm much brighter than internets people.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure most people are able to keep three things in working memory at once. At least I can. Right now I'm flipping back and forth between this post, coding, and doing other work-related stuff. And that about how it goes every workday. It does get mentally exhausting juggling several tasks, at least for me, but it's doable. I do know people who can't answer a question and code at once, but idfk if that makes them anything but different than me. Generally speaking I get bored a lot more than people who seemingly can't focus on more than one thing at once, due to me feeling understimulated, and being bored can end up being counterproductive.
That's not to say that I've done any analysis into whether I'm an orsum multitasker, I'd say that I need to keep my mind busy with several things in order to maintain maintain focus on any one, and that I'm decent at compartmentalizing, on a good day. If I ever thought much about how my brain works, I'd say I break stuff up into tiny pieces and seemingly solve several tasks simultaneously by advancing through each task piecemeal, rotating my focus through it, and that my mind tends to wander if there's lack of variety.
I've not memorized pi, tho, or formulated a system on how to solve a rubik's cube quickly (or looked one up on the internets), so that's two things I can't presently do. But like I said, I know someone earl who did it for shits and giggles, and I've yet to see it get useful, even when done all at once.
What annoyed me with this thread is that it looks like a) a bid for external validation, to borrow a phrase from my good friend mr manker mankersson esquire the first, and b) that it's kind of lazy work, all round.

Something wrong, they are not mutually exclusive. Nasty is common for all three circles.

Just think of it as different types of nasty.
Like cars. They can be the same make but different models. People can own either an Audi TT or an Audi A4, both or neither.
It's all Audi but in the diagram, the circles will intersect but also be distinct.
I am aware that I've confused you even more now but I like to think that my explanation would be of use to readers who aren't quite so hard of thinking.

Oh you found that? I keep thinking it's one of my best gems. It's hilarious what people will overlook when they're in a defensive state.
As for the multi-tasking theme, I'm more Sneelike. If I don't multi-task, I will lose focus on whatever it is I'm doing that's most important since my mind will find something to fixate on. I'm more impressed with Squeams not boasting. Way to be humble, considering your multi-tasking potential is 10:1 compared to the rest of us.

So it was disingenuous?
What's the point of saying that you're a Christian when you're not. It isn't as if it's that unusual and why would it have made a difference?

If I recall correctly, Squeams and I were arguing about monkeys. And someone came to her aide saying unless I was a scientist it wasn't my place to hold the argument.
I responded with the fact that I can't be a scientist since I'm christian. Everyone overlooked it, since they were in a defensive state (as opposed to an offensive one) and did not pick the pointer up to berate me about it.
I think I've been vocal about my lack of religion in Macky's atheism thread.
I have a weird taste for anti-humor. :idunno:

The thing I read wasn't what you just wrote, though.
You mentioned doing some work for your church. People don't generally have a church unless they're religious.

Disagreed. I respect the Church, I just don't agree with what it stands for.
I volunteer at the Church regularly, because I see it as a communal socializing hall for the neighborhood. I help people with fundraisers, cook food for giveaways and help advertise the daycare. To me the Church is like a library without the books. People still go there asking for help with filing taxes, help with getting on the internets, help with driver's education etc. I help the community through the Church.

What. Help filing taxes! I'm glad that the churches around me don't get up to such shenanigans.
That you see the church as facebook for old people is great. It is completely dissimilar over here, however. Which may explain why it's fast fading here but appears to be stronger than ever over there.
There are church run youth-clubs in the evenings but I'm fairly sure that the majority of Welsh churches cater socially only for the people who go to bi-weekly sermons.
These people are old and are dying out quickly with no-one to replace them. I don't know a single person my age or younger who goes to church for anything other than funerals and the like.

About the church thing, I went and volunteered at one of my old churches after I went agnostic. I drove one of the buses of homeless people we picked up in a central location in downtown and helped serve the meals. The price the homeless payed was being preached to for 2 hours about how God has a plan for them all. I thought I was OK with it, but after a while the concept was too much for me to humbly pay mind. I stopped going after rather negative feedback to my suggestion of having a separate dining area for those who didn't want a sermon. I would still donate my clothes there.

Looking back at it now, I have to agree with the smilie choice of my esteemed colleague, mbm.
So, a church is like a huge empty room.

So what would you describe a sports stadium as when the people aren't attending?

While pedantic, this did miss the point(s). The first point is stadia, or arena's if you will or any other large meeting area are big empty rooms when the people aren't there.
Secondly if you filled or saturated the meadow/stadium/arena with chairs it would fairly useless as any kind of sporting venue?

Actually, I had erased the part where I said "I think you mean arena" before I realized how you asked your question.

I don't know how anybody can do any of the following at the same time: talk/listen/read. My inability to do this was a constant source of irritation to my ex. He could play computer games and have a fully functional conversation with me, but if I was on the internet talking to you guys or reading something I wouldn't hear anything he said to me. I tried to explain that if he wanted a conversation with me he should say my name firmly and audibly and that would cause me to take note, extract my attention from what I was doing and turn it to him. He never got it though. I would suddenly become aware of a babbling noise and then realise he was in the middle of a conversation with me :(

That's because we're not backwards fucks. Organised religion evolved to form a system of governance at a time when the majority of the population couldn't read and were even more prone to acts of random barbarism and sociopathy than today. As soon as societies became educated enough they formed alternatives to religion that didn't rely on fear and rote learning to control the population.
An advanced civilisation will find ways to be socially helpful and aware that don't have anything to do with churches. If you're an atheist or even agnostic, and you have anything to do with organised religion you're just prolonging its agony and validating it, and you don't have the balls to stand up and be counted.

Jesus, In the way the homeless are handled this reminds me of Down and Out in Paris and London (Orwell). That was set in the 1920s and 30s though.
