Switching Seedboxes Help
Hi, as you may know I already have a Vectoral seedbox. Now paying $100+ per month is starting to get too much for me. I love their service but the speeds aren't always up to 2MB/s and the thing that bothers me most is you have to pay for their bandwidth. Right now I have 3TB traffic but I would like to have more because every month I almost max out the traffic. So I am now looking for another seedbox. I am looking for unlimited traffic, 60-120GB hard disk space and I'm willing to pay between $35-$50/month. I heard about hosting-ie and rapid switch, got mixed reviews from both of them. Any other suggestions? Which one do you think may fit my needs? Thanks again for all of your help.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Rapidswitch i would go with.
will be a lil more than wat ur willing to pay tho.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
$35-50 why even bother looking your not going to find it. You might need to expand your upper end by 20 or so.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Most of the mixed reviews with hosting are to do with setup times, since they are a reseller of keyweb it can sometimes take awhile before the server is set up. I have had a hosting-ie server for 6months now and have no complaints. Any issues have been resolved very fast and the data throughput is definitely alot more than 3tb per month.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OVH, if you buy a server there with 1gb ram, you will get 11mb/s of upload easily

I'm also thinking of changing to OVH ( I'm with leaseweb right now but 1GB RAM is just not enough for me... ). I have a friend in the UK that might buy it for me and then give me the login data. Thing is I heard they make some sort of TS that ruins the speeds after a certain point... that is when your traffic is coming/going outside of France.
Could anyone that is with them confirm this? I mean, someone that is not using them in France?
Cheers.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
So it's either Hosting-Ie or OVH that I will go with. I'm looking at these choices.
Hosting-Ie:
http://hosting-ie.com/content/view/34/75/, the first one.
OVH:
http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/kimsufi.xml
I heard that ovh.uk does not sell to US residents. Is that true?

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
You just have to use a fake address to get an account there. Once you have an account you can pay like normal.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I can highly recomend the hosting-ie raptor 5. Thats what I use and easily up 150-200 GB a day if the torrents are good. Get speeds up to 11 mB/s on a vps!!. Average is around 7-8.
Hope this helps
Jon

How exactly do you pay for it. Surely if you use your visa tied to your home address on the other side of the world there's clearly gonna be some suspicion occurring if not by visa by them and if they suspect something surely they'll cap the speeds like I've heard they do for non specific country users.

I think you lucked out. I doubt the average vps sharing with 4 other people is gonna yield those kinds of results especially if they're doing the same thing. Those are the results you get with a dedicated line.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Y dont u just find sm1 from the uk and bank transfer the how eva much the server is from ovh then they order it.im sure sm1 will for a extra couple of quid or a invite or some cookies.:-)

My one of my friends was able to this just fine. I'm working on this myself. SO hopefully we'll see what happens here soon.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
So how did he pay for it and how are you planning on paying for it.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I'm not sure. I received 2 PMs of people offering me their OVH seedboxes. I told them that I'll think about it and let them know within a few days. I dunno how to pay in the OVH UK because they won't allow US residents to pay. I might just go with the cheapest Hosting-IE dedicated server. It must be FTP compatible and unlimited bandwidth. Some of the guys are trying to figure it out for me at IC.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
There are people who do OVH reselling. If anyone on the boards knows any US resellers for the uk OVH site please PM me. Thanks!
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Vectoral: slow
OVH: slow
Kimsufi: slow
Hosting-IE: fast (as long as you get a Rabtor+)
I am uploader at a couple places and this is what I have consistently noticed from people leeching and my own experiences.
Take it as you will.

If you get caught with OVH, you will get turned over, why take that chance?
Hosting.ie will do what you want, and without fear of it being tur5ned off, and it is FTP & unlimited BW, however, speeds are not as good as vectoral, but you can still do 3-4TB of traffic per month on busy sites with good torrents.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
One thing I've learned lately from someone I know who received a message from their customer service who asked about this is that you can get OVH but you have to go through ovh.com any other OVH site won't allow it.

Thanks for the advice Sarge. :) I will go with a Hosting-IE Raptor. Should I go with dedicated or a vps? Do the upload speeds differ from the two? If I go with the dedicated ones, should I get the 256mb Ram, 60GB one or the 512mb ram, 2x160GB hard drive? The thing is, the setup fee looks pricy and I don't need 2 160GB hard drives. Just one would be plenty. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
I would go for the 581 each & every time (min for 3 months though, not for anything less):
http://hosting-ie.com/content/view/34/75/
And if you can afford it, 1GB of RAM would vastly improve the box if you intend to use Windows, if not, follow naq's excellent guide on setting up a nix box, windows will run on 512mb but slowly, and it slows down everything else as well.
If costs are a major factor, get the Raptor 5 VPS, again not forgetting windows is a drain on small memory boxes.
If you only want 1 month worth of a box, then reply back and we'll find something better.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
So the one u mentioned is around $75/month USD. I can afford that, I'll be saving around $40/month from my Vectoral server and I will be using Windows Server Web Edition 2003. I'll try to order it this weekend. I will be using the box 4 more than 1 month, perhaps as long as I am torrenting.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Thanks, SgtMajor
I been reading a lot of seedbox review from FST.. and you were everywhere.. ^^
I used Vectoral for 1 month, 4TB bandwidth but used all in 2 weeks.. ^^
Few days ago I ordered one u recommend with upgrade ram from hosting-ie.. thanks to you..
Hope I get it soon.. ^^

Go with the 581 as sarge suggested.
I did and I put FD6 on it I used Naqs guide
It's not hard to setup and I get 10 to 11 megs up and down total all day long:)
I have had one with windows and 512 meg ram and I did get disk overload trying to download fast.
With nix on this box It hasn't happened at all:)
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, ordered the Raptor 581. Windows Server Web Edition but I had to go with 512mb Ram (1GB Ram would be tight on my budget) and 3 months contract. Do you pay it all at once or do you pay monthly?
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Your looking at about $312 for 3 months and I believe it needs to be paid upfront.

You pay one month at a time.
First month was 128.00 for setup fee and the price of the server
They will get you for taxes too.
I had mine in 5 days but they can be a lot longer to get it setup.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, I finally got the server info. Now here's my question for setting it up. I am using a Mac Laptop using Leopard. The server should be running Windows Web Edition 2003. Is there a WebUI torrent client that works with Leopard? Basically I'd like to 'see' what I'm leeching/seeding through the webui on my Mac, then transfer the files I've downloaded to my Mac so I can transfer the files to my external hard drive, import the files to iTunes and put them on my iPod.
Is there a torrent client that has a WEBUI for Mac? May I somehow also transfer the files I've downloaded to my Mac? If there's no torrent client that has a WEBUI compatible for the Mac I might as well install boot camp, then run windows vista. Next I would download Parallels so I may run Windows and Mac at once. I hope no one gets confused with this, knows what I want to do and knows how to do it. Thanks again.

WebUI: just a web page, can be open with any browser (IE, Firefox, Safari)
Remote Desktop: http://connect.microsoft.com/macrdc This is a Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac OSX. Use it to connect to the actual desktop of your server.
Look in the guide's section for a tutorial on setting up a FTP Server on your Windows seedbox, then connect to it using a FTP Client on your Mac.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK, thanks. I downloaded that and I'm able to login. Then I noticed the hard drive was only 10GB instead of 160GB and the network speed did not seem like 100MB/s. I'll send them an email to see if they may fix it.
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
why not try european servers from france they are much cheaper and easy to use and yeah heavy speeds

You have to format the rest of the space, system management should sort you out.
Speed maybe shared, actually is shared - not maybe.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
Thanks Sgt Major. Found out how to do it. Now I just need to figure out how to set up the FileZilla Server and Filezilla for FTP, then I just need to do uTorrent WebUI and I should be all set. I can't seem to connect to the FileZilla Server though. Do I install the Filezilla Server on my seedbox and then install FileZilla on my Mac? I tried to install FileZilla Server on my seedbox but can't seem to get it to work. I was following the guide here at FST.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
So far - so good.
FZ server on seedbox - ensure you change the standard port number from 21 to something between 50000 & 55555, then add a user and then ensure to set the home directory for that user to where your torrents are downloaded to - the D Drive perhaps? Then give that user RWAD permission for the D Drive so you can delete directories from the FZ client (or any FTP client will do - doesn't have to be FZ just because you use FZ server)
FTP client (can be FZ - doesn't have to be) - ensure you use same user name & login exactly as you used in your user details on the server, and change the port from 21 to the one you selected, increase the number of connections to the server to 10 and you are (should be) ready to go.

Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
OK Sgt, I'll have to re-read your last post a few times before it makes sense. I'm a bit confused now. lol
-
Re: Switching Seedboxes Help
If something goes "whoosh" a bit, tell me to slow down and explain again.
But if you follow the tut and as you are setting it up read the post aboe, it will all fall into place.
