What DVD blank media to use?
Hi guys,
remember me?
Well I just bougth a PC with DVD Burner,
so, I was wondering?
What DVDs should I use to burn movieson to?
cus my burner says 8x in the front,
and I´ve seen some DVDs that are not too expencive
but say something like 4x...
Can I also use those on my PC?
I think the 8 or 4 mean speed,
If Im right, could you tell me what to expect
refering to the time it will take to burn a movie?
As always, thank you guys!
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
I think about 15 minutes and I buy whats on sale although I prefer name brand although some are very opionated in this area...
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
i have an 8x dvd burner but i use 4x media all the time. bought a 100pk for $40 at newegg. my dvd burner reads them as 6x dvd+r and it only takes about 10 minutes to burn a movie after its been encoded. btw dvd only hold 4.3 GB of video and not the 4.7 GB it says on the label. as for the 6 and 8, they are the speed at witch the data is written to the disc. 6x is 8300 kB/s.
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
i like verbatim 4spin - they work at 8 with no problems.
i did have a 100 spindle of cheap stuff, and the last 30 wouldnt burn - got loads of errors with them...so i hate the cheap ones, though i know some people swear by them.
btw: i get my disks 40p each, in 25's

often depends on what brand of burner you own. some are very picky about the disc brands they'll burn satisfactorily, others will do a great job of burning whatever generic crap you throw at 'em.
Princo discs have been cheap and reliable, with my Pioneer burner.

If you have a liteon or a rebadged liteon(sony possibly) you had better stick with good quality dvd+ disc..have a look around here for more dvd burner info http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61 :cool2:

Actually the price of the disc can be misleading. Just because it is cheap doesn't mean the disc are cheap. For example, the discs spirex bought are 100 for 40 dollars. Yes cheap, but the "manufacturer" is actually using TY discs which are top of the line.

true, and that kinda sux :(
i got an HP (rebadged NEC) and hp seems to wanna support dvd+r more so than dvd-r
(HP is kinda gay like that)
but tests done show that dvd-r is a little more compatable on stand-alones
cant remember the site, so ppl will have to google of they wanna see reviews :P
and as for the cheap vs. name brand....
i cant bring myself to buy the discount media, too risky
anyone want an opinion on that, ask Adster ;)
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
i use datawrite dvd+r and they work alright for me.
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
I use 8x Arita DVD-Rs. Based on the Ritek GO5 purple dye. I get them for about £30 per 100 (about $50 USD per 100). They burn faultlessly at 16x on my Pioneer 108. Takes about 6 minutes 30 seconds to burn a full (~4.4GB) DVD
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
I have mostly used Memorex and Maxell.
I just found a deal for AML 4X DVD-R for $9.99 (Canadian) for 50 spindle.
That's about $8.30 US. So about 17¢ each. I have burnt 2 so far. No errors or problems. :)
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
Bottom line to give a better educated answer we would need to know the manufacturer of the dvd burner and model # ...

UK Sites
---------
CDR Media
CDR Seller
Disc City
Medea International
Personal brands I prefer are (in no particular order): Hi-Space, Infiniti, Paradox, TDK, DataSafe, Verbatim, & TraxData.
You can't go wrong with DataSafe though, I don't know anyone personally who has had any fail on them.

Re: What DVD blank media to use?
Well i use Bulkpaq orange 8x dvd - as they work out at about £27 for 100 disks,i"ve burnt about 100/120 dvd"s so far and ive only had one bad burn and that was down to the programme i use...i find these to be the best so far....and trust me ive used several brands.Best Ebay buy to date.
Re: What DVD blank media to use?
At a nearby Micro Center, they are selling DVd-R 4x, and DVD+R 4x for 36 cents each, or 25 pack for 10.99$, and if you get 2 packs, they are only 8.99 a piece. They are made by Platinum.
And on that video help website, what does "plays on 2 dvd players" and "doesnt play on 0 dvd players". If it only plays on 2, then wouldnt it not play on all the rest? I am confused man!
