For pc gaming, listed in order, 1) Video Card, 2) Ram, and 3)Processor are pretty much the main things most people will spend on for gaming .
well....i don think there is a correct answer if one has to be chosen.
If you have a great video card, but a weak cpu, it's not going to be a great system.
vice versa, if you have a great cpu, but a weak video card, same results.
the amount of ram/speed of ram should also be taken into consideration
then there's the motherboard....
Basically, my point is, instead of getting a top of the line component, you might as well spend that money and get a well balance computer.
EDIT: ohhh wth...i went pass 1000 post already? i dont even go here that much anymore.
The nut that screws it all together. :)
the power button
Most money should be spent on the monitor.
It's an expensive part anyway and when you consider you're gonna be looking at it almost the entire time you're at the computer, you'll appreciate the best you can afford.
I agree with the monitor . I'v had two computers in the last three years , but the same Viewsonic 17ps.
The headlights.
PSU, no point having a 100wt PSU with a GT6600 now is there. Either way without each part a computer is useless.
Im pretty sure without a motherboard... you wont really be able to get anything accomplished...
you see? there is no right answer, everything is important in order to achive best performance.
I agree with everyone except the one that said monitor ...

Then you can build your whole plan around it . Upgrade cpu, add vid card , change case .... ect. But your monitor stays constant . But just ones opinion . :)
just keep the cpu and ram around the same performance isntaead of paying more for one of them (if you're gaming a lot). RAM should always be a good amount though.
The most important part of a PC and coincidentally, the most difficult to upgrade, is the USER.
Without them, most computers would be just fine.

Video Card, CPU, RAM, Power Supply, Monitor, not neccesarly in that order. The PSU is an imporntant and overlooked component but really you don't need a 500W power supply if you just have middle of the range components. Right now I run a 6800GT off a 320Watt stock power supply and although i'm getting a new one it doesn't really give me any hassles. Monitor was the first thing I upgraded, try to get something quality.
