Why are my cfg files suddenly showing up like this? With a notepad icon instead of the windows looking thingy.
They still work properly...

Yes, It happens.
almost always, when it happens to me,
is 'cus I messed with apearance configuration
or tried to change icons.
but if even they work fine, but the aspect confuses you,
you could always change the icon back,
but you probably already know it, right?
Skitzo, Thats becuase you have windows set up so its uses notepad to open up cfg's by defualt. I set that for my CS:S config files to make it easier.
open explorer > tools >folder options > file types
scroll to "cfg" - clik advanced > change icon
right clik .cfg > open with.. > always open with
edited typo
css?? Why css?Quote:

sorry i ment "cfg"
your right .cfg isn't there...
by the way did you do that tweak - where all unkown files should be opened with notepad? if so there is your issue.
Nope. Not that I'm aware of. I haven't changed anything to do with it. It was the default icon a week ago, and now I go to amend something and they're notepad icons. :blink:Quote:

whats the icon you want it to look like? according to me its just the blanko icon (aka unkown file)
here's a fix
the extension is found in your registry here
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.CFG
simply delete "notepad" (and anything else in eg "open withs" etc) this will set it back to default.
The attached .reg file will do it automatically for you.
I can't find the actual icon or I'd just change it myself obviously, but here is what it looks like kinda.

that is definetly not a standard windows icon - your probably using some skin/theme.
anyway its a .cfg icon how often do you see those?
i give up
