Need more info. What kind of movie are you watching? DVD, Divx, XviD??? Are you using a subtitle file like *.sub, *.srt ??? What version of VideoLAN???

vlc 0.8.4
div-x
subtittles that I used are *.srt coming from this website:http://divxsubtitles.net , the player can read them, but there is always some kind of time distorsion, even if I set the delay before watching.

The person/group who created that subtitle file is probably not the same person/group who ripped the movie dispite the same movie title. I would find the sub file that matches the ripper group. Emule is good place to find many sub files.
