apache is one of the best server hosters ever man!!!    This board uses it, and many servers aswell. It is Linux, and it is probably the besat, unless you want some shitty m$ server <_<
Apache is by far one of the best HTTP servers available. It is not that difficult to use if you read the documentation.
BTW, you can use Apache with both Windows and Linux. ;)
Apache is bloated it you don't need it.
Try bad blue or some other personal web server. Abyss and foxserv are good if you want apache, mysql, and php in one bundle.
On windows I'd just as much get an xp disk and install IIS 5.0 if your just trying to serve a few files. It's limited to 10 concurrent connections but it won't matter if you only have 1 or 2 people connected.
I look at some of theese sites where people have forums, websites, and what not, and you go there and it is just 1 person and 1 guest on the whole server. http://www.scapenotes.com/notes/econs/rolleyes2.gif
If you don't need it then give your pc a break and save it the resources. :)
internet infomation system....
but u'll need a lot of security patches to lock it down <_<
 its 2 hard to use
i just want some easy program that will host my site from my pc. :)
Try using the The Uniform Server .
It is based on Apache and is small but with lots of features...
You can also try Abyss Web Server which is also good.Quote:
Features:
Apache2
PHP 4
MySQL 4
PERL 5
The smallest size with full functionality.
There both easy to use. :rolleyes:Quote:
Despite its tiny footprint (for example, the executable file size of the Windows version is less than 112 KB); it supports HTTP/1.1, dynamic content generation through CGI/1.1 scripts, Server Side Includes (SSI), custom error pages, and user access control (HTTP authentication/password protected files).
It might help if you told us what kind of site you plan on hosting from your pc. Not in detail but just in general.Quote:

Php does not need mysql. And if your just serving simple web pages then you can just use html.
Apache, Mysql, and Php = lots of processes and memory power. And if your going to be using the same pc for daily use then you will feel the drawback.
